Bank Street School for Children (BSC) - Children's Programs
Role: After School Sports Sampler Teacher (Part-Time)
Start Date: Monday, September 23, 2024
Schedule:
Weekly on Fridays, 3:00PM - 5:00PM (2 sessions 3/4s - 6/7s and 7/8s - 9/10s) and Possibly Wednesdays from 3:00 PM - 4:00PM (1 session with 3/4s - 4/5s)
September 2024 - June 2025 adhering to the BSC calendar
Opportunity for occasional substitute work
Pay Rate: $50 - $70 Per Hour (commensurate with experience)
Job Summary:
We are seeking an energetic and enthusiastic Sports Sampler Teacher to lead an after school course designed to introduce young students to a variety of sports, including soccer, basketball, tag football, and more. The teacher will work with the Afterschool Administrative Team to develop age-appropriate curricula for specific age groups, including 3/s - 4/5s, 5/6s - 6/7s, and 7/8s - 9/10s. The ideal candidate will be able to create engaging activities that promote physical development and teamwork, while also providing important updates and information to supervisors as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Afterschool Administrative Team to design and implement age-appropriate sports curricula.
- Build positive relationships with students, encouraging respectful behavior and keeping them engaged in activities.
- Apply effective classroom management skills to maintain a lively and safe learning environment, adhering to health and safety guidelines.
- Ensure students move safely through the hallways and in and out of the building during program hours, following all building-wide safety regulations.
- Oversee the safe transfer of children to afterschool and dismissal to authorized adults.
- Set up, retrieve, and return any necessary sports equipment to its proper place before and after each session.
- Actively participate in the Afterschool program, sharing information and strategies with colleagues to support a healthy classroom community.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Experience teaching or coaching sports to young children is preferred.
- Strong classroom management skills, especially with younger children.
- Familiarity with progressive education principles is a plus.
- Previous experience within the Bank Street community is an advantage.
- Willingness to collaborate and work as part of a team, with a commitment to developing skills in working with individual children, small groups, and the entire class.
