Role Description

The US Equine Business Unit is focused on maximizing the value of our broad veterinary portfolio and solutions by building and sustaining relevant partnerships with veterinarians. Based on our business model and operating environment we bring more than just medicines, services, and expertise to the marketplace - we deploy a range of targeted activities to support our solutions offerings in meeting the needs of our customers. We are seeking a highly capable individual as an Area Business Manager, within US Equine Business Unit. This person would report to the National Sales Director and their primary responsibilities include leading all aspects of planning, execution, and sales performance for a team of Equine Specialists, dotted line to one Inside Digital Sales Representatives with targeted annual Equine Sales. Significant travel, some weekend work, and travel is a requirement of the position. The Region covers all the equine business in the following states: Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas (Southern Part), Missouri (Southern Part), Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, and Alabama.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Sales Performance

  • Meet overall sales objectives (quota) both overall and for key growth products via demand generation within targeted accounts.
  • Successfully launch new product and service offerings.
  • Demonstrate success in other key sales metrics such as growth rates, market share, and key performance indicators.
Leading People
  • Lead all colleagues in the Region to successfully and consistently meet their business objectives and IDPs.
  • Attract, develop, evaluate, differentiate, and retain talent through recruiting/hiring, ongoing coaching, and proactive/effective use of both colleague development tools and performance management, including performance ratings.
  • Spend +75% of available time with direct reports in the field, coaching them to meet performance objectives by strengthening their core capabilities-including timely verbal and written feedback.
  • Execute initiatives aligned to Equine Business Unit expectations for enhancing the R's capabilities for Solution Selling, Business Planning/Resource Allocation, Technical Knowledge, Territory Management, and Teamwork.
  • Lead direct reports to develop and execute Territory Business Planning/Resource Allocation aligned with Equine BU and Region strategies, tactics, metrics, and objectives.
  • Lead the coordination of individual and team responsibilities, actions, and performance related to strategic accounts.
  • Utilize effective and motivational verbal and written communication with the Regional team, equine colleagues, and external stakeholders.
  • Provide clear leadership, direction, and communication during Area meetings, conference calls, and all relevant opportunities.
  • Continually improve Equine Specialists' development and engagement.
  • Work with all Zoetis colleagues professionally, consistently meeting expectations regarding integrity/compliance, work ethic, role/responsibility, conduct/attire, effective communication/informing, administrative responsibilities, and overall teamwork.
Leading the Business
  • Develop an Area Plan focusing on Equine business priorities and resource allocation utilization, conducting quarterly business reviews with the National Sales Director and revising continuously.
  • Utilize data from Zoetis systems to identify regional, territory, and key account growth opportunities.
  • Work with other Area Equine Business Managers to develop and share regional best practices.
  • Collaborate with Equine Technical Service colleagues to create and execute a focused and prioritized plan ensuring performance in targeted accounts and assisting in developing direct reports' technical competence.
  • Work closely with all major Equine Distribution partners to drive sales results across your entire region.

  • Ability to exercise good judgment and make thoughtful/fair decisions based on relevant information.
  • Computer skills (MS Office, Outlook, and the ability to learn Zoetis systems).
Minimum Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree (BS/BA).
  • 5-10+ years of related experience, including sales, sales management, and/or non-sales functions such as marketing or veterinary operations.
  • Equine experience and knowledge of Equine veterinary medicine are preferred.
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
  • In-depth product and disease knowledge.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, and Word applications.
PHYSICAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • The position requires a valid driver's license.
  • Willingness to drive to customer locations across defined geography-Horse Barns, Clinics, and dealer facilities.
  • Requires the ability to work on equine farms.
  • Requires willingness to work with animals, from husbandry to treatment and product administration education.
  • Ability and willingness to travel overnight, including some weekends.
  • The preferred location is Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, but the candidate can be reasonably located near a major airport in close proximity to Texas.
