Job Description:
The Assistant Holding Company Specialist is primarily responsible for the review of Holding Company filings and the monitoring of authorized reinsurers in Nebraska.

Any applicants that already have an AFE (Accredited Financial Examiner) or CFE (Certified Financial Examiner) designation, salary will be adjusted to the minimum range: AFE - $60,470.70/annual and CFE - $77,402.70/annual.

Job duties

Reports to and assists the Holding Company Specialist with the following:

1. Review of all Holding Company Registration filings in compliance with Nebraska Statutes and Regulations, Department Policies and Procedures, and as required by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) Accreditation Standards (a peer review process).

2. Providing technical guidance in interpretation and evaluation of generally accepted accounting practices and statutory accounting principles, reinsurance matters, legal matters and any other areas deemed necessary.

3. Drafting holding company and reinsurance related statutes and regulations as required by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) to maintain accreditation.

4. Tracking of Holding Company Registration filings received including the status of the review completion according to Nebraska Statutes and NAIC Accreditation Standards.

5. Organization and maintenance of electronic files related to all Holding Company Registration filings.

6. Review of accredited, trusteed, reciprocal jurisdiction reinsurers, and certified reinsurer applications as well quarterly compliance reviews for certain reinsurers. Maintenance of reinsurer information section of the Department's website.

7. Participating in and monitoring NAIC activities as it relates to the above areas of responsibility.

8. Performing other related duties as assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a business-related field (accounting, insurance, risk management, economics or closely related area).

Preferred Qualifications: Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to work independently with support. Ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. Knowledge of theory and practice of insurance principles including accounting, auditing, and reinsurance. Effective communication skills (Both oral and written) to present information, comments, and recommendations in a clear and concise manner.

Other: Regular and reliable attendance is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to: Evaluate financial practices and procedures and provisions of law governing insurance companies, related legal opinions and court decisions; Gather, organize and summarize financial data; Analyze data and draw sound conclusions; Analyze situations accurately and recommend an effective course of action; Prepare clear, complete and concise reports; Organize and maintain electronic files; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with department staff and insurance company officials.
