Assistant Professor, Exercise, Movement Science, and Brain Health

Description: The University of Illinois (http://illinois.edu/) and the Department of Health and Kinesiology (https://ahs.illinois.edu/kch-home) seek to hire an outstanding faculty member in exercise, movement science, or brain health. We seek applicants who can contribute to the excellence of our programs through research, teaching, and service. The position is a nine-month, tenure track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. The scope of the position encompasses scientists with expertise in exercise, human movement, neuromuscular control, or brain structure and function among human populations with or without disease. The successful candidate will be expected to take advantage of significant recent investments by campus in imaging technologies, including a new human 7T MRI system. This new faculty position is part of a broader campus expansion targeted at leveraging the 7T MRI for Brain Health and Precision Medicine, including a strategic cluster hiring initiative (https://mricluster7t.web.illinois.edu/. Qualifications: The successful candidates should have received a doctoral degree in kinesiology, exercise science, movement science or other relevant disciplines (e.g., psychology or neuroscience) by August 2025. A record of academic scholarship that meets qualifications for the Assistant Professor rank is required. The candidate should demonstrate a commitment to research evidenced by the pursuit and/or reception of extramural funding and development of a research program that includes neuroimaging outcomes. The candidate must also demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate instruction and mentorship.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time nine-month Academic position, paid on a 12-month basis. The preferred starting date is August16, 2025. The typical salary range is $80,000 to $95,000 at the Assistant Professor level.
