Job Summary

The Department of Health and Kinesiology, located in the College of Applied Health Sciences, seeks to hire one outstanding faculty member in the area of Health Administration. The position is a nine-month, tenure track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates must have a PhD in Health Administration, Health Management, or a related area.

Successful candidates should have (or demonstrate potential to have) a history of leading independent research related to the management of healthcare organizations and health service delivery in the U.S. Ideally, the candidate has prior experience guiding research groups of investigators of varying levels and contributing successfully to interdisciplinary collaborations including those with healthcare organizations and clinicians. The candidate should also have the ability to mentor students and energetically teach key topics under the MHA rubric that prepare students to assume administrative roles across a variety of healthcare organizations. Additionally, we seek individuals who will bring new and creative ideas to our team of instructors and professors.

Qualifications

The successful candidate should have a doctoral degree in Health Administration, Health Management, or a related area. Candidates must also demonstrate a record of academic scholarship that meets the qualifications for the rank of Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Ideally, candidates would demonstrate a focused line of research in one or more of the following areas: leadership, management, organizational development, health system performance, healthcare operations, and/or organizational behavior.

Preference will be given to individuals who demonstrate excellence in embracing diverse individual identities, fostering a culture of inclusion, and promoting equity in curricula, teaching, standards, behaviors, policies and practices. Appointment Information

This is a 100% full time Academic position, appointed on a 9-month basis, paid over 12 months. The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $90,000. Salary is commensurate with experience.

General Information:

The Department of Health and Kinesiology (HK, https://ahs.illinois.edu/kch-home): The mission of the Department is to advance and disseminate knowledge related to health, rehabilitation, and human movement using an interdisciplinary approach. Through the integration of high-quality research, instruction, and outreach programs, faculty scholars within HK are leading initiatives that address pressing concerns of our diverse society such as prevention and management of chronic disease as well as maintenance of health and well-being across the lifespan. HK hosts a diverse group of faculty, students, and staff (https://ahs.illinois.edu/kch-directory-update) working and learning in a collegial and collaborative environment. HK offers BS degrees in Community Health, Interdisciplinary Health, and Kinesiology; MS and PhD degrees in Community Health and Kinesiology; Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Health Administration (MHA), and Master of Science in Health Technology (MSHT). More than 1,600 undergraduate and 200 graduate students are enrolled in the Department. Most undergraduate students continue their education in professional allied health or graduate degree programs, and most doctoral graduates attain positions in academia or industry. The recently renovated Freer Hall Lab includes a variety of new laboratory space totaling ~38,000ft2 that includes several wet and dry space laboratories, office spaces for students and faculty, and common areas designed for meetings and collaboration. The research laboratories include two biochemistry and cell culture laboratories, equipped with centrifuges, biosafety cabinets, chemical fume hoods, incubators, -20oC freezers, flammable refrigerators, water purification system, and lab benches with vacuum and compressed air connectors. The three biospecimen collection sites include phlebotomy chairs and hospital beds designed for long-term studies. The metabolic testing laboratory is equipped with an isokinetic dynamometer for measuring muscle strength (HUMAC Norm), two treadmills, and a metabolic cart (Parvo). There is also a body composition lab equipped with several ultrasound machines and a DXA for measuring body composition. Other facilities include a fully equipped metabolic kitchen and an observation room.

The MHA Program (https://www.ahs.illinois.edu/mha-overview): The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign established the Master of Health Administration (MHA) program in 2017. Located within the Department of Health and Kinesiology, the MHA program supports major campus initiatives to provide innovative leadership in health administration research, education, and service regionally, nationally, and internationally. The Illinois Master of Health Administration program combines the benefits of a small program with the resources and opportunities of a leading research university. This growing program allows students to be at the cutting edge of newly developed classes and curriculum, with instructors who are leaders in the field. The program size allows students to easily connect with the supportive faculty and be surrounded by a tight-knit cohort of peers. The program welcomes students from a wide variety of disciplines and training to join their diverse cohort of MHA students. The two-year, 52 credit hour, residential Health Administration degree is modeled after general Business Administration curricula; giving students educational training in finance, leadership/management, quality and strategic planning. The MHA degree includes a 200-hour internship, where students apply their training to assist an organization of their choosing. The MHA program provides a supportive learning environment by establishing student cohorts, allowing students to progress with the same classmates throughout their time in the MHA program.
The College of Applied Health Sciences (AHS, https://ahs.illinois.edu): The mission of AHS is to promote culturally relevant individual and community health and well-being across the lifespan, facilitate optimal living with disability, and foster the development of livable communities in a diverse society through learning, discovery, and engagement.
