The Department of Psychological Science at Boise State University invites interested applicants to apply for the position of Assistant Professor in our in-person program to begin in Fall 2025. We are seeking a dedicated teacher and researcher with an area of specialization in neuroscience, neuropsychology, biopsychology, or physiological psychology. Candidates who can teach neuroscience courses including Biological Bases of Behavior, Neuropsychology, Cognitive Psychology, and Perception are encouraged to apply. We seek candidates who can maintain an active program of research that involves undergraduate students as research assistants, and who can contribute to the advancement of research and external funding in the department. Candidates should have a program of research sufficient to produce a minimum of three peer-reviewed publications in a five-year span prior to tenure application. The successful candidate will also engage in service activities (e.g., committee assignments) benefiting the Department, College of Arts and Sciences, and University, as well as the local community, state, region, and discipline.

The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to curriculum and pedagogy that is responsive to the students it serves. The successful candidate will have the ability to engage all students in the classroom using evidence-based and inclusive teaching practices. The standard teaching load is 1-3 courses per semester dependent on class size, with possible adjustments for service activities or work on externally funded research projects. Flexibility in course modality and scheduling is available. This is a nine-month academic year tenure track position, with opportunities for salary enhancement through summer teaching or work on externally funded research projects.

The Department of Psychological Science boasts a highly interdisciplinary faculty with a strong history of success in teaching, research, and service. The new Neuroscience undergraduate degrees (a B.S. and a minor) were created in collaboration between our department, the Department of Biology, the Department of Kinesiology, and the Department of Education. Boise State is the first university in Idaho to offer an undergraduate degree in Neuroscience, led in part by our department and college.

At a minimum, candidates should have:

  • An earned doctorate in psychology, neuroscience, or a related field by August 1, 2025.
  • Experience with evidence-based, student-centered teaching practices.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a research program involving undergraduate students.
The preferred candidate will have:
  • Demonstrated success or potential for success in teaching, research, and service.
  • Positive student course evaluations or other evidence of effective teaching (e.g., teaching observations)
  • Experience teaching courses in Biological Bases of Behavior, Neuropsychology, Cognitive Psychology, and/or Perception
  • A breadth of teaching experience (i.e., large classes and various modalities)
  • A research focus on brain-behavior connections and relationships (broadly defined), with the area of specialization open.

Salary and Benefits

Salary (9-month contract) ranges from $61,000 to $63,000, and is commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will also receive some start-up funding to support their research.

Our standard faculty contract is a 9-month contract (unless otherwise noted) with pay and benefits spread over 12 months. This is a yearly, renewable contract, unless noted that the position is temporary. More information about faculty contract and work days is available here.
