The Digital Media Program and the Art & Design Department at The University of Massachusetts Lowell invites applications for a full-time Assistant Teaching Faculty position to start in the Fall Semester of 2024. The successful candidate will be responsible for the 3-3 teaching load with significant service to the program including advising students, participation in committees, curriculum and program development, recruitment, internship oversight, public engagement, and supervising student workers and equipment management and check out services.

Primary responsibilities are to provide high-quality teaching and service to the program. A candidate should hold a Master of Fine Arts degree in the field of video and audio production (or relevant media) and have at least two-years of post-graduate teaching experience. We seek a committed and collegial individual who must demonstrate ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Responsibilities will consist of teaching existing courses at the undergraduate level including foundations classes, intermediate and upper-level studios and seminars, and senior capstone project, as well as developing new courses and promoting innovation in pedagogy.

A wide range of skillsets will be considered as the program is looking for a candidate with professional experience in film, multi-camera production, and/or a related media. Candidates with strong skills in film production, cinematography, editing and post-production are all invited to apply. Experience teaching at the college level in a diverse college environment is essential. Curriculum requires the instructor to be fluent in Adobe Premiere and Davinci Resolve. Ability to teach motion graphics using Adobe After Effects, Avid, and Nuke is desirable. Likewise, the program will consider someone with strong skills in experimental practices, editing, post-production, and special effects and compositing.

The teaching position does not require the successful candidate to produce research but is expected to maintain an active practice to remain relevant in the field.

The successful candidate would also be involved in advising undergraduate students, service, and outreach activities, and actively participating in continuing efforts to improve the department's educational mission. Additionally, a relevant candidate will help with the managing of the program's facilities and equipment and supervise student assistants. Other complementary areas of expertise will be considered. Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Applicants must currently have a Master of Fine Arts degree in visual media arts, communications, filmmaking, media studies, or another relevant field.
  • Two years of university-level teaching experience; significant experience of professional practice will be considered.
  • Demonstrated relevant professional experience in video and film production and editing plus professional, produced credits, or significant festival screenings, or other credits.
