Who We Are:

SwRI is a nonprofit R&D organization that is seeking a skilled team member to work on the design, development, fabrication, assembly, maintenance, and repair of electronic/electrical/mechanical and software related project work for government and commercial clients.

Objectives of this Role:

  • Support research and development with multidisciplinary personnel to design, fabricate, assemble, test, and maintain custom electronics.
  • Use CAD software for schematic capture, printed circuit board layout, and to implement designs of electronic and mechanical hardware.
  • Support design, fabrication, assembly, and test of electronic and mechanical hardware to include assembly and disassembly, test, procurement, and inspection of Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs).
  • Knowledge of industry practices regarding CCA fabrication and assembly is preferred.
  • Provide general engineering support: interact with vendors or SwRI shops, help in maintaining lab equipment, fabricate and assemble various systems, set up testing systems in the lab or field, and collect test data.
  • Support project work for the assembly and testing of electronic (analog, digital, RF, optical, embedded, etc.), mechanical, optical, and electro-mechanical systems.
  • Use problem solving skills on challenging technical problems in a collaborative team environment.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
  • Work independently or as part of a team. Complete assigned tasks with or without direct supervision; be able to work on multiple tasks in parallel.
  • Must be able to determine when to ask for further instruction on tasks so as to avoid schedule delays. Learn new skills as needed.
  • Fabrication, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of electronic and mechanical assemblies, electro-mechanical systems, mechanisms, and structures, including prototypes, and associated support equipment.
  • Use electronic tools to aid in the test/diagnosis/support of assigned work.
  • Capable of soldering, electronics and mechanical assembly, testing, measurement, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of multimeters, power supplies, and oscilloscopes is preferred.
  • Must be able to read schematics, and understand electronic design documentation in order to fabricate, assemble, and test.
  • Communicate clearly and present relevant technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Use a computer and various operating and support software to create and support technical documentation and communication (MS Office: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook).
Requirements:
  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Electronics coursework. Associates degree in Electronics or equivalent industry and/or military and NASA/IPC soldering training in electronics is preferred.
  • 1-5 years: Basic electro-mechanical construction skills and fabrication techniques for assembly of printed circuit boards, multi-pin control cables, RF coaxial cables, and basic electronics assembly. Basic DC/AC circuits experience/knowledge.
  • 1-5 years: Experience in schematic capture, circuit board layout, modeling of mechanical parts using CAD software is preferred. Software layout experience including Altium (or software equivalent). Solidworks (or software equivalent) experience is preferred but not required.
  • 1-5 years: Basic computer skills including PC hardware and software. Operating laboratory-test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, multimeters, network analyzers, etc.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.
