CDL Instructor - Part Time

Responsibilities:The purpose of this position is to train students to have the knowledge to pass the commercial vehicle and driving exams to obtain a career in the transportation industry.
- To train students to have the knowledge to pass the commercial vehicle and driving exams to obtain a career in the transportation industry.
- Demonstrate the proper and safe operation of the following:
- Commercial motor vehicles and tractor-trailer combinations
- Commercial vehicle safety control and braking systems
- Vehicle maintenance
- Adhere to State and Federal highway regulations governing operation of commercial vehicles.
- Evaluate student capabilities and progress in accordance with the State of Texas standardized testing materials.
Other duties include but are not limited to:
- Demonstrate skill and/or knowledge in teaching discipline.
- Make continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.
- Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course objectives and inform them of their progress in the course in a timely manner.
- Complete documentation including grades, reports, maintenance logs, etc., as required by the supervisor.
- Promote positive morale and teamwork within the department and campus by providing exceptional customer service to students, colleagues, and the community.
- Complete all required training and professional development sessions sponsored by LSCO.
- Must comply with established college policies and standards.

Qualifications:
- Basic computer skills.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time in both indoor and outdoor settings where weather conditions vary.
- Ability to travel regularly to various locations to fulfill position responsibilities.
- Five (5) years Truck Driver experience utilizing a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.
- Ability to work flexible hours.
- Valid Texas Class A CDL or Class B CDL with ability to be insurable by Lamar State College Orange required.
- No more than three (3) moving violations on driving record in the past three (3) years.
- Comply with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) medical requirements.
- Experience as a Driver Trainer and Passenger/School Bus Endorsements preferred.
- Knowledge of the Federal and State rules and regulations pertaining to commercial drivers.
This position is security-sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215.
