Come join our awesome team as a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant with The Preserves! This is an on-call/PRN position!

The Preserve is part of Volunteers of America National Services which serves as the Housing and Healthcare subsidiary of the Volunteers of America parent organization. Located on the corner of Plantation Road and 6 Mile Cypress Parkway in beautiful Fort Myers, we provide Assisted Living, Memory Support, and Skilled Care Services (Post-Acute Rehabilitation & Long-term care).

The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) will provide quality ongoing therapy to all patients within the facility per physician's orders and assists the therapist with resident/patient related activities and direct resident/patient care.

Pay: $35 per hour
Schedule: This is an on-call position (PRN) and schedule will vary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate from a Therapy Assistant accredited curriculum. Eligible for certification and/or licensure per state regulations.
  • Is a registered assistant the state of employment or is eligible for registration in the state of employment.
  • Ability to understand medical terminology and how it applies to Therapy in order to communicate with residents, staff and physicians, and to prepare meaningful reports.
  • Coordination and dexterity necessary to manipulate tools and materials while instructing residents.
  • Adequate strength and endurance to meet the physical demands involved in using equipment, tools, and materials while instructing residents.
  • Verbal and written ability is necessary to understand oral and written instructions; to communicate with residents, staff and family; and to prepare reports as directed by the Registered Therapist.
  • Motor coordination, manual and finger dexterity are necessary to coordinate movements of eyes, hands and fingers and to manipulate materials while instructing residents.
  • Spatial and form perception are necessary to visualize shapes, patterns and other pertinent details in specifications and pictures.
  • Be willing to work weekends and holidays, as needed, on a rotational basis; and willing to travel and work at other VOA facilities, as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Performs therapy treatment and related duties delegated by the therapist, and upon written order of the residents' attending physician, a safe and professional manner.
  • Communicates a report on the residents' progress to the therapist and attending physician.
  • Modify treatment techniques in conference with therapist.
  • Maintains clinical skill competencies, respond promptly to acute changes in the patient's physiological state and report changes to therapist and record pertinent changes.
  • Teach patients, their families and other health care providers to perform selected treatment procedures and functional activities.
  • Directly assist the therapist in performing complex evaluations and/or treatment procedures.
  • Consults with the therapist and the physician regarding residents' change of condition as indicated during the course of treatment.
  • Prepares and maintains timely treatment records with progress notes.
  • Assists with planning, scheduling, mailing, transporting, filing of documents, and coordinating of Therapy services offered by the department.
  • Ensures that Therapy services are provided on a continuous basis, without interruption. This involves informing the supervisor of upcoming vacations, leave of absences, or other reasons when a replacement therapist may be needed.
