Job Responsibilities

The University of Pennsylvania is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator to join the laboratory of Dr. Daniel Herman in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and the Center for AI and Data Science for Integrated Diagnostics (AI2D). The coordinator will join a group of research staff that support clinical AI and data science research, including ongoing investigator-initiated studies and new studies that are in development or start-up phases. More specifically, the Coordinator will help develop, coordinate, and execute clinical trials aimed at improving screening for underdiagnosed diseases and developing components of a learning health system. This will include evaluating EHR machine learning models and model-triggered decision support. Projects will span cardiovascular disease and cancer, include prospective observational and retrospective studies, and include single-site and multi-site studies.

Clinical Research Coordinator A: Coordinate Phase 0-III clinical trials. Recruit, consent and screen patients according to protocol. Schedule patient visits and any necessary testing. Monitor patients per protocol requirements and ensure adherence to protocol requirements. Organize and maintain documentation required by the Investigator, sponsor or CRO, includes source documentation, case report forms, and research charts. Collect, review and report study data. Complete case report forms and resolve data queries. Process and ship study specimens including blood and urine. Conduct or coordinate study visits, as well as participate in study team meetings. Help to develop complex documents such as protocols and consents. Show vigilance in patient safety, protocol compliance and data qualify. Adhere to all University of Pennsylvania, FDA and GCP guidelines.

Clinical Research Coordinator B: Perform the duties above with more limited supervision. Will need to use more independent judgement. Will more independently help develop study design and complex documents such as protocols, and procedures. Will also more independently communicate with internal and external groups.

Qualifications

  • Clinical Research Coordinator A: Bachelor of Science and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Clinical Research Coordinator B: Bachelor of Science and 2 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Effective communication and writing skills required
  • Effective problem solving abilities and sound judgement required
  • Strong organizational and time management skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently required
  • Knowledge of IRB and human research protection regulations preferred
  • Practical experience designing and coordinating the day-to-day activities of clinical research projects a preferred
  • Experience with Redcap or other tools for organizing study data preferred
  • Experience with processing of blood specimens and/or phlebotomy a plus
  • A strong passion for empirical research and predictive medicine a plus
