The Role

The selected individual will install and/or repair electrical construction type jobs that will meet or exceed the requirements set forth by the current National Electric Code and Code Compliance section of the City of Newport News, Virginia. Candidate will be expected to place high priorities on safety and quality-workmanship and be willing to obtain a thorough knowledge and understanding of the current edition of the National Electric Code. Individuals will attend High Voltage Training and participate in high voltage preventative maintenance programs.

In addition, the selected individual will troubleshoot/repair electrical circuits, calibrate equipment, interpret schematics, install conduit, install electrical equipment, and pull wire of all various sizes. Other duties include rebuilding equipment, installing electronic controls, lighting maintenance and performing preventative maintenance. This job may also perform crane electrical maintenance. Candidate should have completed basic electrical theory classes or possess a journeyman electrician's license. Candidate should have a good driving record and be willing to become a qualified equipment operator (JLG, forklift, scissor-lift, etc.).

Must Have

Individual must be able to lift minimum of 40 lbs and perform manual labor in an outdoor environment.

Candidate must be able to work overtime and weekends as required by plant operations.

This position requires the ability to understand oral and written instructions.

Must be able to work assigned shift as production needs

Nice to Have

Prefer candidate to have a high school education or the equivalent, in addition to some level of classroom training in electrical theory.

Prefer candidate to have completed basic electrical theory classes and possess a Journeyman's or Master's Electrician's license. Trade-school graduate preferred, but previous on-the-job training will be considered in lieu of an associate's degree or an apprenticeship in the electrical construction trade. Knowledge in low voltage substation maintenance, generators, and automatic transfer switches is desirable.

Prefer candidate to have a good driving record and be willing to become a qualified equipment operator (JLG, forklift, scissor-lift, etc.). 3 years of maintenance electrician experience is preferred.

Trade school graduate preferred, but previous on-the-job training will be considered in lieu of electrical theory courses. High school graduate or equivalent preferred
