JAS is an international, non-asset-based supply chain services and solutions company. Our services include air and ocean freight forwarding, contract logistics, customs brokerage, distribution, inbound logistics, truckload brokerage and other supply chain management services, including consulting, the coordination of purchase orders and customized management services.

The Corporate Compliance Specialist position is responsible for all aspects of import and/or export customs compliance including development, implementation, training and support of all Company import/export functions. The job function requires knowledge and understanding of all import and/or export related compliance regulations, i.e., CBP, AES, SLI, Census and BIS.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop policies and procedures to maintain import/export customs compliance.
  • Engage in project management with compliance customers.
  • Manage monthly newsletter development and publishing.
  • Assist with managing customer projects.
  • Assist with managing internal KPIs.
  • Conduct audits of branch offices to ensure compliance.
  • Develop and maintain compliance policies, create training modules and train staff on import and/or export regulations. Design regulatory advisories for clients.
  • Design and communicate reports to senior management showing adherence of compliance for all locations.
  • Utilizes understanding of the proper processes to resolve problems according to industry standards.
  • Reviews processes and recommends implementation of new procedures.
  • Assists employees/teams in resolving Customs and other Government agency issues.
  • Maintains positive customer relations.
  • Prepares and monitors various compliance and management reports.
  • Other duties as required and assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • The ideal candidate will have 5 to 7 years of experience in international freight forwarding and good working knowledge of Incoterms, Harmonized Tariff Schedule, customs regulations, and other relevant government requirements/regulations.
  • Requires proficiency with Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Hold Customs Broker license for a minimum of 5 years preferred.
  • Experience writing policies and procedures.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
  • Able to read, analyze, and interpret moderate to complex business correspondence.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
  • Able to add and subtract two digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Able to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY:
  • Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and verbal instructions.
  • Able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standard situations.
  • Able to apply principles of logic or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Able to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

100% performed in climate-controlled internal office environment working under normal office conditions. Travel may be required in support of the position's responsibilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

•While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; stand; walk; use hands and finger to feel and handle; reach with arms and hands; talk and hear. While performing the duties of this job, the employee infrequently is required to stoop, kneel, and crouch; lift weight or exert a force up to a maximum of 25 pounds.
