Job Summary

The Director, Engineering - Single Phase UPS will be responsible for the management and leadership of a group of global engineering teams. This position oversees all new product development efforts utilizing Vertiv's NPDI stage gate process and all sustaining engineering activities for existing products. This position is also responsible for creating a culture of innovation, execution, and continuous improvement that is focused on solving real customer problems.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the completion of all new product development programs to spec, on time, at cost, and within budget across all 1P UPS design sites globally.
  • Create a high-performance culture through excellence in hiring, talent development/retention, accountability, and collaboration.
  • Deliver industry-leading quality and reliability for new and existing 1P UPS products.
  • Lead and staff all on-going sustaining engineering activities ranging from customer support, field quality issues, VAVE initiatives, and production/operational challenges.
  • Implement pertinent controls and processes to ensure that all NPD and sustaining programs are progressing as planned and reported regularly.
  • Support on-going planning/budgeting activities and perform active resource management across all design centers globally.
  • Staff and regularly provide updates on Advanced Research initiatives that deliver product differentiation and increased value to customers. Maintain a close partnership with the CTO office.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, technology advancements, and best practices in technology development.
  • Collaborate with other LOBs to maintain a Solutions mindset.
  • Ensure new product development teams adhere to business Standards and Processes.
  • Maintain an ongoing knowledge of competitive products.
  • Supervises Product, Electrical, Mechanical, Firmware, Test and Sustaining Engineering functions.
  • Works closely with Product Management on roadmaps, VOC/requirements management, and launch readiness.
  • Works closely with Project Management on meeting all NPDI and sustaining program objectives.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience as a leader in Engineering and Product Development with significant knowledge of UPS systems or power electronics.
  • Managerial skills necessary to plan, measure, and motivate engineers to continuously improve their output and personal growth.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that enable effective interactions with Sales, customers, and cross-functional peers.
  • Solid track record of delivering product launches on time and within budget that meet/exceed all quality and customer expectations.
  • Strong analytical skills and decision-making capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing large R&D teams across multiple sites.
