Position Purpose:

The Director of Investigative Services is responsible for developing and supervising a newly created Investigations unit within Equal Opportunity, Accessibility, and Title IX (EOATIX). The investigations unit is responsible for conducting investigations into potential violations of Dartmouth policies referred from Dartmouth Offices, including EOATIX, Human Resources, and Integrity & Compliance.

Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp:

Bachelors plus 6 or more years' experience or combination of education and experience

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated experience conducting investigations, including conducting interviews, collecting and evaluating relevant materials, and collaborating with constituents, preparing and drafting investigation reports, and ensuring the record management of findings, results and data are carefully managed.
  • Experience applying laws, regulations and/or institutional policies in employment, higher education, compliance, and student conduct matters.
  • Excellent judgment, discretion, confidentiality, and tact in handling sensitive matters with the ability to maintain objectivity and treat all individuals with respect, dignity, and empathy.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills including experience handling highly confidential sensitive material.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather, analyze, interpret and present information and data for parties, leadership, and other relevant audiences.
  • Experience building, developing, and supervising a high-performing team within a service organization.
  • Ability to develop and maintain productive, collaborative relationships and partnerships with senior College leaders and the campus community.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and project management skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple complex cases simultaneously in a time-sensitive environment.
  • Fosters a climate of inclusion and equity and is sensitive to diverse perspectives and cultural norms.
  • Evidence of success working independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to recommend and innovate ideas to organize and implement policy and process improvements, develop case management procedures, and record retention and document management protocols.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • J.D.
  • Conducting investigations in a higher education setting.

Description:

  • Develop and manage an investigation program and a team of investigators to conduct investigations referred by EOATIX and other campus offices into potential violations of polices, ranging in complexity and sensitivity, including providing training, feedback, and guidance to investigators.
  • Conduct investigations and as needed serve as lead investigator including interviewing and drafting credibility assessments, findings of fact, and findings of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of applicable policies, regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with key College partners on investigations.
  • Create training modules for investigators, and coordinate delivery of ongoing training to investigator in collaboration with campus partners as needed.

Description:

  • Establish and maintain clear, consistent methods for investigation and investigation workflows, that are in line with best practices.
  • Develop and provide active oversight for investigation processes and protocols, including reviewing investigative plans and other associated documents.
  • Ensure consistent investigations through establishing best practices and protocols including investigation templates, letter templates, case management and document retention policies.
  • Organize, manage, and report on the work of the Investigations Office to College leadership.
  • Create training and professional development programming plans for team.
  • Provide support to EOATIX initiatives as needed.
