Caterpillar's Resource Industries Electrification team is at the forefront of developing key technologies to help our customers build a better, more sustainable world. Our innovative products are shaping the future of electrified mine sites globally.

The goal of the team is to sufficiently mitigate top risks, ensure requirements are met, drive the products to meet reliability targets and ultimately support the customers' needs, including safety expectations and regulatory requirements.

As an Engineering Specialist for Resource Industries Electrification, you will champion the application of proactive and predictive engineering methods to determine product reliability of the base machine, stationary and dynamic charging, and L8 level systems. You will plan and design validation controls performed virtually, in component and system labs, at Tucson Proving Ground (TPG), and in the field at customer locations. You will interpret customers' safety expectations and regulatory requirements and drive electrification solutions across Resource Industries Operations and Products (RIOP) products. The engineering specialist will work with machine value stream teams, design teams and L4/L5 component teams to manage requirements and systems architectures across a broad range of machines. You will also develop common, scalable, and modular components for use by the RIOP machine value stream teams in their NPI programs.

What you will do:

• Collaborate with product groups to define and negotiate system requirements.

• Develop validation plans for electrification product through FMEAs and validation planning workshops.

• Support field validation to ensure deliverables meet customer and technical requirements.

• Provides technical support to marketing, sales, suppliers and team members throughout the product development and implementation process.
• Evaluates new product designs for technical feasibility and compliance with technical standards.

Degree Requirement: Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.

What skills you will have:

Technical Excellence: Experience in designing, maintaining, or validating machine systems for Resource Industries products.

Product Testing: Knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing.

Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of product problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. Ability to deliver an effective presentation to leadership.

Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.

Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment.

Top Candidates will also have:

Experience in electrification, electronics, or safety and regulations.

Additional Information:

The primary location for this position is Tucson, AZ, or Mossville, IL.
