The Environmental Studies (ES) Department at Colby College invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor position in environmental policy to begin Fall 2025. We seek candidates with scholarship and teaching experience in international environmental policy. We are particularly interested in candidates with transnational or global perspectives on climate change, agriculture/food systems, environmental justice, or other areas of environmental law or policy. Teaching responsibilities will include an intermediate-level course in international environmental policy, electives in the candidate's area of specialty, an introductory environmental studies course, and a senior capstone course for environmental policy majors.

Candidates should have a Ph.D., be engaged in interdisciplinary environmental policy scholarship, and have a strong commitment to undergraduate education. A successful applicant could have a background in any of public policy, sociology, anthropology, geography, sustainability science, or a related social science discipline. Candidates who are ABD with an expected completion date prior to fall 2025 will be considered. The search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching and/or service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the campus community.

Colby's Environmental Studies Department is one of the oldest in the country. The department offers majors in Environmental Policy, Environmental Science, and Environmental Computation. Core faculty include multi- and interdisciplinary scholars from diverse disciplines and more than two dozen affiliated faculty from other departments. The department engages in basic and applied environmental research and advocacy at the local, regional and global scale. The ES department works closely with Colby institutes including the Buck Lab for Climate and Environment, the Davis Institute for Artificial Intelligence, the Goldfarb Center for Public Affairs, and the Oak Institute for Human Rights. The ES department also collaborates with numerous off-campus partners, including the Bigelow Labs for Ocean Sciences, the 7 Lakes Alliance, and numerous state or federal environmental agencies. Colby has observer status with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) where we annually send a delegation of faculty and students. In 2013 Colby was the fourth college or university in the United States to declare net zero carbon emissions. Colby's ongoing efforts towards sustainability includes green building development and significant resources for student environmental research, civic engagement, and internships.
