Description: Our client is currently seeking a Histology Tech for a Full time position in a New facility/lab in Exton, PA.
POSITION SUMMARY
Precisely and accurately performs a variety of routine and specialized histology techniques and procedures. Follows standard operating procedures for the grossing of small specimens, quality control, and quality assurance. Serves as a resource and provides bench supervision when needed, to others in the department. Meets schedules, priority demands, and deadlines. Demonstrates flexibility and versatility in coordinating tasks. Takes on special projects.
KEY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Describes, measures, and inks specimens according to specified protocols. B. Cross-train and share knowledge; assist in orienting others. C. Embeds tissues accurately to produce sections that appropriately demonstrate cells. D. Microtomy is artifact free. E. Staining procedures are accurate and precise, resulting in a diagnostic slide. F. Cassettes and slides are accurately labeled with two patient identifiers, accession number and
patient name. G. Operates and maintains computer and laboratory equipment according to DDA and laboratory
procedures. H. Performs Q/C and Q/A documentation as required. I. Utilizes and stores supplies efficiently. Notifies supervisor when additional supplies are needed. J. Daily workload is completed within scheduled shift. K. Prioritizes tasks for the efficient use of laboratory resources and technician time. L. Expedites "RUSH" specimens. M. Files blocks and slides. Retrieves items upon request. N. Disposes of hazardous chemicals per regulatory guidelines. O. Maintains and understands laboratory inspection guidelines. P. Follows safety regulations set by OSHA and CAP guidelines. Q. Follows HIPAA regulation standards set by DDA. R. Completes annual Healthstream or other educational program(s) as assigned. S. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Training that meets all regulatory requirements of CLIA, CAP, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Specifically, the requirements for high complexity testing, which includes one of the following:
• Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
• Associate degree in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution, or with a current H.T. or M.L.T. (ASCP) registration, or equivalent laboratory training and experience meeting the requirements as defined in the CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489
• Prefer three years of laboratory experience at a hospital or private laboratory.
• Licenses, certifications and/or registrations - H.T., and/or M.L.T. (ASCP), or equivalent experience and training.
• Proficiency with microtomes, tissue processors, Stainer's, and equipment used to produce a stained slide suitable for a diagnosis by a pathologist.
• Computer and systems necessary to maintain a pathology laboratory database.
• Basic office equipment
Specialized knowledge and skills .
Demonstrate complete understanding of all test procedures and technology.
Ability to evaluate and correct poorly produced slides.
Ability to multitask.
Possess leadership and interpersonal skills commensurate with assigned responsibilities.
Working Conditions:
a. Risk of biological and/or chemical exposure.
b. Fast paced laboratory environment.
c. Sitting and/or standing for prolonged periods of time.
Sign-on bonus- $5,000 - 1/2 paid at 30days, 1/2 at 60days
(1) Mon-Fri - 9:30a-6p (slight flexibility with start time)
(1) Mon-Fri - 8 hour shift - start hours are start between 11a-1p (11a-7:30p, Noon-8:30p or 1p-9:30p)
