Overview

The Administrative Legal Intern will provide vital administrative support to the immigration legal team at CWS. The intern will assist with client communications, event coordination, and various administrative tasks essential to supporting immigration legal services. This role is an excellent opportunity for students interested in law or social justice, particularly those with an interest in immigration law and migrant rights. Language skills in Spanish, Ukrainian, or French are highly preferred. The intern will report directly to the supervising attorney.

Duration: 6 -9 months

Time Commitment: 10 hours/week with flexibility to accommodate the intern's schedule.
Requirement: The intern must be available to work from the HQ office twice a week for 3-4 hours each day.
Office Location: 475 Riverside Dr #700, New York, NY 10115.

Responsibilities

  • Answer and direct phone calls from clients and partner organizations.
  • Call clients to provide updates on their cases or gather necessary information.
  • Schedule client appointments and manage legal team calendars.
  • Assist with the organization and support of legal clinics, including preparing materials, setting up events, and welcoming clients.
  • Maintain and organize client files and legal documentation.
  • Translate documents and communications for clients when necessary.
  • Assist with outreach efforts to clients about upcoming legal clinics and available services.
  • Provide general administrative support to the immigration legal team.
  • Support with task assigned by the legal department.

Qualifications

  • Current college student or law student with an interest in immigration law, public interest law, or social justice.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with online scheduling tools.
  • Ability to handle sensitive client information with confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Ukrainian, or French is highly preferred

Special Requirements

Internship Chain of Command

The intern will report directly to the Senior Paralegal. Approval is required before executing tasks at the request of other departments/employees to ensure the intern's time remains structured and aligned with learning objectives.

Feedback and Evaluations
  • Regular 1:1 check-ins with the Senior Paralegal to provide feedback and guidance.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Immigration law and legal processes.
  • Client communication and case management.
  • Event planning and execution (legal clinics).
  • Administrative support in a legal setting.
  • Professional document translation (if applicable).
