Job Summary

The Distribution Supervisor will direct, supervise, and coordinate warehouse operations. Responsible for managing receiving, inspection, put-away, picking, packing, and shipping processes ensuring shipment quality, cost management, workforce planning, departmental administration and driving continuous improvement activities within the department. Provide direction to workforce guided by established company policies and engineering standards. The Supervisor will also manage/enforce attendance policies, safety, and housekeeping, including recognition and/or discipline of employees assigned. The Supervisor will work closely with the Production Supervisors, Planning/Scheduling, Purchasing, Engineering and Maintenance teams to execute production schedules and implement continuous improvement objectives.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage staff responsible for receiving, inspection, put-away, picking, packing, and shipping.
  • Plan and manage distribution activities through the utilization of workforce skills, hours, material, and workflow to assure timely processing and quality standards are achieved each day.
  • Organize and assign work considering the current workforce levels; instruct, guide, and assist employees in the performance of their work.
  • Maintain and develop an adequately skilled work force consistent with planning requirements and work levels, including cross training.
  • Participate in company programs, such as communications, job training, vacation schedules, and job evaluation.
  • Ability to gather information and report about business needs proactively to Operations, Planning/Scheduling, Purchasing, Engineering, and Maintenance, etc.
  • Manage and enforce the use of safety devices and equipment, supervise departmental housekeeping, and maintain constant alert for unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain conformance with company work rules and regulations, issue warnings for violations and administer approved disciplinary measures when necessary.
  • Establishes and modifies operational methods and procedures.
  • Maintains documentation to reflect the effectiveness and efficiency of department activities.
  • Frequently interacts with other supervisors and functional peer groups at various levels. Interaction normally requires the ability to gain cooperation of others, answering time sensitive communication, conducting presentation of information concerning specific projects/schedules and daily review of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, Productivity and Cost metrics.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • Prior Supervisory experience required.
  • Two years' experience in a logistics environment is required.
  • Machining, Planning, Engineering, or Quality background is also a plus.


Skills and Abilities
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at any level.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities - ability to multi-task.
  • Detail oriented self-starter.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise with a warehouse, distribution, freight, or logistics background.
  • Detail oriented self-starter that motivates oneself and their team to accomplish daily targets.
  • Ability to proactively work through issues while still achieving schedules and on time performance.
  • Honest, fair, firm, and consistent with their direct reports.
  • Strong computer skills with Microsoft suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with SAP, Kronos, and/or Workday a plus.
  • Ability to establish credibility and be decisive.
  • Above average communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at any level.
