JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood is currently seeking candidates for a Lead Industrial Architect with design and production experience in industrial, chemical, energy, and paper markets. Primary focus for project work will be to prepare construction drawings, develop specifications and assess existing facilities for new and/or retrofit industrial facilities.

This position primarily provides architectural design leadership on detail design projects. This position supports architectural design from conceptual studies, feasibility analysis, construction grade scope and estimates, detailed design, and construction field support. Preference will be given to qualified candidates who are local to Wood's Greenville, SC office location. Well qualified candidates local to Wood's Tucker, GA office will also be given additional consideration.

Onsite (preferred), Hybrid (preferred) or remote work options are available with this position. Authorization to work lawfully in the USA without sponsorship from Wood is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Typically serves as the Lead Architect or the Discipline Technical Authority on projects.
  • Executes facility architectural design according to applicable codes and standards.
  • Ability to meet with clients, present progress for architectural work, design options and 3D model reviews.
  • Performs various tasks in each of the three project phases: Design Development; Construction Documents; Construction Administration
  • Daily activities include problem-solving on both large projects and small consultations for project managers and other disciplines.
  • Provides a wide range of architectural services while maintaining a sense of urgency and prioritization of tasks.
  • Participates and coordinates the preparation and quality of construction documents, including drawings and specifications.
  • Responsible to review and rectify the design related to all applicable Codes and produce documents including Life-Safety, Egress, and General Code Compliance drawings and narratives.
  • Helps to coordinate multiple-discipline overlays, construction techniques, and sequences.
  • Effectively addresses problems and questions as they occur during construction.
  • Writes reports such as feasibility studies, design criteria, and material recommendations.
  • Assists with coordination of all aspects of other disciplines as they affect the building envelope and interior.
  • The candidate will follow projects through approvals and construction.
  • Significant production work with Revit
  • Reviews work of and provides guidance to junior staff.
  • Review vendor or contractor submittals for adequacy and compliance with contractual documents.
  • Performs site visits when required and assists with construction RFI's after document issuance for construction.
  • Provides technical leadership to teams of professional and non-professional staff.
  • Supervises complex architectural tasks related to projects.
  • Provides technical reviews and document checking for complex projects within the area of expertise.
  • Reports to Head of Discipline for Architecture and Building Systems Group.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture (5-year program) or Master of Architecture (preferred) from accredited U.S. institution.
  • Minimum 8 years of related experience.
  • NCARB certification is required.
  • Home state professional registration required.
  • Project management experience is preferred.
  • Permitting experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge with the latest releases of architectural software:
    • Revit
    • AutoCAD
    • Navisworks
    • Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) or BIM 360
    • Bluebeam Revu
    • Microsoft Office Applications
    • Microsoft Teams
  • Specifications writing and editing experience - SpecLink Cloud is preferred.
  • Proficient understanding and working knowledge of building codes and industry standards (ex. NFPA, International Codes, Factory Mutual Datasheets, ADA, etc.)
  • Able to write design analyses, design criteria, estimate project costs, life cycle costing, and estimate construction schedule duration.
  • Able to travel by air and ground to domestic project sites across the United States.
  • Position requires candidates to be physically able to climb ladders, access rooftops, and perform safe inspections or observations in all areas of high hazard industrial sites.
