Job Description Summary

Responsible for troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of plant equipment as directed by the maintenance manager/supervisor. Uses a Mil, Lathe, Mig and Tig Welding to fabricate equipment for use on the production floor. Accomplishes assigned repair and maintenance functions throughout the plant in an orderly and timely manner.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Follow all plant safety policies and procedures
  • Responsible for maintaining the safe operation of his/her work area including initiation of frequent housekeeping and for escalating any unsafe conditions to supervisory personnel.
  • Perform maintenance work, repair and adjustments of plant equipment; changes and replaces belts, sprockets, bearings, chains, motors, pumps, etc., and perform repairs as needed or directed.
  • Fabrication of Stainless metals.
  • Use of Mill, Lathe, Mig/Tig Welding on Stainless and Aluminum metals
  • Reads, writes, and communicates fluently with management through the use of logs, prints, sketches, diagrams, operating instructions, and technical manuals.
  • Completes regular diagnostics on plant operating equipment to ensure performance. Observes and listens to operating machines or equipment to diagnose malfunctions and determine the need for adjustment or repair.
  • Coordinate with the shift supervisors and maintenance personnel to effect repairs and maintain equipment with an emphasis on minimizing downtime.
  • Must have the ability to learn process and packaging equipment and QA equipment such as scales, metal detectors, and coders
  • Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic & Preferred Qualifications

Position Requirements:

  • Education / Certifications:
  • High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Preferred: Industrial Maintenance Mechanic (IMM) Certification (if not currently possessed, willing to attend the 4-year program paid for by the company)

Skills and Experience:

  • Required: 2 years' maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Preferred: 3 years' food processing maintenance experience.
  • Required: 3-5 years' fabrication experience.
  • Able to identify safety hazards in a maintenance environment and implement safe work practices to ensure the continued safety of themselves and coworkers. Observes safety and security procedures; reports potentially unsafe conditions; uses equipment and materials properly.
  • Basic understanding of electricity, electrical systems, and electrical motor control systems.
  • Basic understanding of heating and refrigeration systems, compressors, hydraulic and pneumatic control devices.
  • Able to read and comprehend basic blueprints, diagrams, operations manuals, and manufacturer's specifications of plant machinery and equipment.
  • Able to effectively communicate in English verbally and in writing
  • Possess a working knowledge of how basic machinery equipment works.
  • Demonstrates reliability through strong attendance and punctuality.
  • Able to work overtime, any shift and any or all days of the week.

Physical Environment/Demands:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently.
  • Exposed to a noisy environment that varies from hot to cold in temperature
  • Exposure to manufacturing environments for up to 8 hours per workday to include: loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, slippery conditions, dirt, fumes, smoke, smells and allergies
  • Ability to do repetitious arm, wrist and hand movements required for job actions and procedures.
  • Must be able to work with hands and arms overhead, and to work in or under the equipment.
  • Requires manual dexterity, overall coordination and good balance to work both at ground level and in high places to perform job duties. Ability to operate work related equipment
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Valid Driver's License and driving record that meets Lamb Weston Driving Standards
  • Exposed to temperatures ranging from -20 degrees below zero to 34 degrees Fahrenheit in Freezer Operation and 34 degrees to 90 degrees Fahrenheit in Plant Operation
  • Climbing to various heights via stairs or ladders on a regular basis

This compensation is specific to this position and takes into account a number of variables. Actual compensation may be higher or lower in the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to a candidate's work location, job duties, experience and expertise. A reasonable hourly estimate of the range for this role based on the variables previously mentioned is: $33.50
