About this opportunity:
Cenovus is looking for a dynamic Manager, Laboratory to join our Toledo, Ohio refinery team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for overseeing health and safety performance in the Toledo Refinery's Quality Control Laboratory to achieve our goals of no accidents, no harm to people and no harm to the environment. The Manager, Laboratory is responsible for leading a broad team of approximately 23 employees, both salary and hourly (union represented) personnel to ensure product quality across the refinery.

What you'll do:

  • Manages the Quality Control Laboratory, ensuring accurate test results are provided to internal and external customers according to a pre-established schedule, within the Laboratory's operating budget, and applying safe laboratory practices.
  • Lead a salaried and hourly represented team to deliver vital results to the business to ensure refinery optimization and finished product certification.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a Statistical Process Control/Quality Assurance program in all sections of the laboratory.
  • Develops, implements and ensure adherence to standards and procedures, methods and practices for all the analytical procedures in the Quality Control Laboratory.
  • Directs and ensures certification and quality testing on raw materials, intermediate products, finished products, and QA/QC samples in compliance with company product specifications and federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Participates in knowledge transfer within the site and with other Cenovus facilities . Implements standard processes as appropriate .
  • Acts as Single Point of Accountability (SPA) to ensure product quality is consistent with established quality specifications, all off-spec products are quarantined and remediated, and all product quality incidents are fully investigated . Organizes and interprets product specifications into a laboratory sample/test matrix to control product quality.
  • Consults with plant engineers, operations coordinators, and others to accommodate testing vital for process product optimization plans, supervises participation in specialty surveys and audits sponsored by industry, trade groups, Cenovus or company affiliated and approved organizations.
Who you are:
  • Legally authorized to work in the US
  • High School diploma
  • Minimum 12 years' relevant experience in a refinery, chemical or environmental laboratory
Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry , Chemical Engineering or like degree type.
  • Experience mentoring and leading teams; experience working with union represented employees.
