Job Summary
The Manager, Product Engineering manages a team of Product Engineers for the AC Power line of business. This role receives priorities and performance targets from senior management for the overall group and translate those into individual tasks and goals for the team members. The Manager, Product Engineering will track team performance vs demand, improve relevant processes and tools, track/escalate risks or issues as needed, and periodically report back to senior management. The Product Engineering group tasks include field/factory support and new product development support - primarily related to product specs and technical support documentation. This product engineering team has responsibilities across all AC Power product platforms and regions, with a focus on North America field and factory support. Management of group standard processes and task workflow will be a major part of this role.
This position will be based onsite at Vertiv's Delaware, OH location.
Responsibilities:
Define and improve standard work documentation for the product engineering group Audit team's work for conformance to defined processes where applicable Review individual team member's performance and provide improvement feedback Work with Engineering Director set and monitor team KPI's, metrics, and capacity Ex: Task backlog count, days spent in each process state, total task throughput, overdue task count and duration Work with cross functional teams to resolve process-related issues to improve performance of product engineering group Train/onboard new team members as necessary Competencies for Success: - Agility: the acumen to handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously managing long term projects with the urgency of immediate demands on the operations.
- Analytical Rigor: Ability to bring structure to ill-defined problems and intellectual leadership to problem solving; synthesize insights from analysis and ensure credible, actionable recommendations.
- Communications Skills: Ability to develop rapport and credibility across the organization, promote ideas persuasively; ability to manage situations including senior leaders and external groups.
- Strategic Thinking: Evaluating trends, developing long-term implications, and recommending pragmatic strategies for continuous improvement and new opportunities.
- Customer Focus: Work well with sales teams and customers to understand opportunities and latent needs to drive opportunities for innovation and differentiation.
Requirements: - Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Management preferred
- 7+ years' experience in similar electronics/power manufacturing environment, with management experience preferred
- Must be proficient with process mapping/definition
- Must be able to manage task workflows (currently use Smartsheet to track)
- Prefer experience managing a team in a product development environment
- Prefer experience in product development
- Prefer experience in Smartsheet report/dashboard development
- Must be proficient with Windows PC's and Microsoft Office applications
