We are currently seeking a Material Specialist (Parts Room Manager) to join our team at the rendering plant.
Overview: As a Material Specialist (Parts Room Manager) at Tyson RVI-Harmony Rendering Plant, you will lead a team of Parts Room Attendants and play a pivotal role in managing the material flow and inventory operations within the facility. Your responsibilities will encompass overseeing the parts room, optimizing inventory management processes, and ensuring the timely availability of parts to support maintenance activities. This position requires strong leadership skills, comprehensive knowledge of inventory management principles, and the ability to foster a culture of excellence and collaboration within the team.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership and Supervision:
- Supervise and mentor Parts Room Attendants, providing guidance, training, and support as needed.
- Delegate tasks effectively, set performance objectives, and conduct regular performance evaluations.
- Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Inventory Optimization:
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize inventory levels and reduce stockouts while minimizing excess inventory.
- Analyze usage patterns, lead times, and demand forecasts to forecast material requirements accurately.
- Establish reorder points, safety stock levels, and replenishment schedules to ensure availability while controlling costs.
Process Improvement:
- Continuously evaluate and streamline inventory management processes to enhance efficiency and productivity.
- Identify opportunities for automation, system enhancements, or workflow improvements to optimize material handling and tracking.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement best practices and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Supplier Management and Procurement:
- Manage relationships with suppliers, negotiate contracts, and monitor supplier performance.
- Collaborate with procurement teams to source quality parts, negotiate favorable terms, and ensure timely delivery.
- Conduct periodic supplier audits and evaluations to maintain a reliable supply chain.
Quality Control and Compliance:
- Implement quality control measures to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and safety of parts inventory.
- Enforce compliance with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and internal policies.
- Conduct periodic audits and inspections to verify inventory accuracy and adherence to procedures.
Reporting and Analysis:
- Generate regular reports on inventory levels, material usage, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Analyze data trends, variance analysis, and root cause analysis to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Present findings and recommendations to management and participate in decision-making processes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field (preferred).
- Previous experience in inventory management, materials management, or related roles, with at least 5 years of supervisory experience.
- Proficiency in inventory management software, SAP systems (preferred), and Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire team members.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of inventory control principles, procurement processes, and supply chain management concepts.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and safety standards applicable to inventory management in an industrial setting.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
Preferred Additional Skills: - Certification in Inventory Management (e.g., CPIM, CSCP) preferred but not required.
- Experience in the food processing or manufacturing industry, particularly in a rendering plant or similar environment.
- Lean Six Sigma certification or experience with continuous improvement methodologies.
- Familiarity with maintenance management systems and preventive maintenance concepts.
- Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Working Conditions:
- The role involves working in an industrial environment, including warehouses, parts rooms, and manufacturing areas.
- May be exposed to varying temperatures, noise levels, and odors associated with rendering plant operations.
- Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting heavy objects.
- May need to work occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays based on operational requirements.
