Wellstar Health System is seeking a dynamic and visionary Medical Director with a background in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) to co-lead our Ambulatory Cardio-OB Program in partnership with a Cardio OB Cardiology Medical Director. This program aims to address the growing need for specialized care for pregnant and postpartum women with cardiovascular disease, a leading cause of maternal morbidity and mortality in the United States. The Medical Director will be responsible for developing, monitoring, and ensuring the success of this critical program across all Wellstar hospitals and ambulatory settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Development and Implementation: Lead the establishment of the Ambulatory Cardio-OB Program, including the design of clinical pathways, protocols, and guidelines to manage high-risk OB patients with cardiovascular conditions.
  • Clinical Oversight: Provide clinical leadership and oversight for the management of patients within the program, ensuring adherence to evidence-based practices and high standards of care.
  • Collaboration and Multidisciplinary Coordination: Foster a collaborative environment with a multidisciplinary team including Cardiology, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Anesthesiology, Hospital Medicine, and other specialties to ensure comprehensive patient care. Conduct regular case reviews and management meetings for high-risk patients.
  • Patient Navigation and Care Coordination: Work closely with the Women's Health High Risk Nurse Navigator to ensure effective patient navigation, seamless coordination of care, and timely follow-up appointments.
  • Quality Improvement and Monitoring: Develop and monitor key performance indicators to assess the success of the program. Implement quality improvement initiatives aimed at reducing maternal morbidity and mortality and improving overall patient outcomes.
  • Education and Training: Provide education and training for healthcare providers across the Wellstar system on the management of cardiovascular disease in pregnancy. Promote awareness and understanding of the program's goals and protocols.
  • Community and Patient Engagement: Engage with patients, families, and the community to improve understanding and awareness of cardiovascular risks in pregnancy. Enhance patient experience through a high-touch, personalized care approach.
  • Research and Data Analysis: Promote and participate in clinical research initiatives related to cardiovascular disease in pregnancy. Utilize data to drive program improvements and contribute to the body of knowledge in this specialized field.

Qualifications:
  • Medical Degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Board Certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) required.
  • Experience in high-risk obstetrics and a strong understanding of cardiovascular disease in pregnancy is essential.
  • Previous leadership experience in a clinical setting, preferably within a multidisciplinary program.
  • Strong clinical acumen with a commitment to evidence-based medicine and continuous quality improvement.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and inspire a multidisciplinary team.
  • Passion for improving maternal health outcomes and reducing disparities in care.
