Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Dean's Office provides oversight for the Adams School of Dentistry and serves as the liaison to the University, citizens, alumni and friends.
Position Summary:This position resides in the Adams School of Dentistry at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is an open-rank faculty position responsible for development, implementation, and/or growth of a cutting edge, independent, yet collaborative, research program focused on biomedical science, cariology, microbiology or associated fields. The successful candidate will also mentor students, residents, faculty and staff, as well as engage with the Office of Academic Affairs to develop, implement and/or deliver content within the faculty member's realm of expertise to Adams School of Dentistry students. The successful candidate for this position will collaborate with other units on campus to support education and training within the faculty member's area of expertise. The successful candidate for this position will report to the Chair of the identified department, dependent on specialty and will be expected to collaborate closely with the Office of Research, Discovery and Innovation to support the school's programs and initiatives. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to work with local/regional/national/international research and education programs.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
-Develop, direct and lead teams in a cutting edge independent, yet collaborative, research program.
-Seek and acquire extramural funding to support a robust research program.
-Supervise Adams School of Dentistry students in research, discovery and innovation as applicable.
-Work with the Chair of (Identified Department) in delivery of education focused on their field of expertise.
-Serve on committees and boards within and outside the UNC Adams School of Dentistry, including thesis and dissertation committees. Serve on local and as appropriate national and international committees for state/federal government agencies and professional societies.
-Represent the School to internal and external constituencies as appropriate.
DMD, DDS and/or PhD or equivalent degree. Evidence of productive research program and/or other scholarly activities. Success in acquiring extramural funding for research, discovery, and innovation. Peer-reviewed publications of research and/or other scholarly activities. Evidence of willingness to mentor students in their scholarly endeavors and participate in delivery of content in lectures and seminars in field of expertise.

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
