What You Will Do
As the North Operations Manager, you will:

  • Lead and oversee production and maintenance operations for 4 sand & gravel pits, 3 quarries, and 6 ready-mix plants to ensure safe, efficient and profitable plant operations.
  • Drive engagement and support for all safety and environmental compliance programs.
  • Provide guidance and management to department managers, superintendents, and forepersons, and support personnel management for all employees.

Location: This is an on-site role based out of Salem, OR. This position will require monthly travel to support operations in Hood River, OR area, and local/overnight travel to other areas within the Pacific Northwest/US approximately once a quarter.

What You Can Do (Qualifications)
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Proven commitment to fostering a culture of safety and leading by example.
  • 5+ years of experience in a construction or building materials environment AND 3 - 5 years of business, plant, or operations management experience (can be concurrent).
    • OR 8 - 10 years of business, plant, or operations management experience.
  • 3 - 5 years supervisory experience and leadership skills with the ability to guide, support, and motivate a diverse team, build strong relationships, manage conflicts, and create a collaborative work environment.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work safely and cost-effectively, and an understanding of basic accounting principles.
  • Exceptional customer service skills for both internal and external customers, and the ability to evaluate complex situations and develop effective solutions.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating the ability to build strong relationships, and influence key stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, capable of clearly and concisely conveying data and concepts to various audiences.
  • Basic PC & Microsoft 365 knowledge with the ability to learn different software applications.
  • Willingness to travel to various site locations and to work extended hours, nights, and weekends when necessary
  • A valid driver's license, current authorization to work in the United States, and pass pre-employment controlled-substance testing.

Work Requirements:
  • This position has been identified by the employer as safety sensitive and will be subject to an employer-required pre-employment drug screening that includes testing for nonpsychoactive cannabis metabolites.
  • This position is not eligible for current or future sponsorship for employment visa status.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
  • Promote a safe work environment for all employees; work with safety and field personnel to minimize risk and increase safety for employees at all times.
  • Responsible for daily operations including safe production, quality, customer focus and maintaining the integrity of the safety and environmental systems within the company's operations for asphalt and aggregate production locations.
  • Ensure all required permitting is accurate and up-to-date within area of responsibility.
  • Drive operational performance and improvements to meet or exceed company goals.
  • Generate and manage the operating budget for the fiscal year under the direction of the General Manager.
  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of all product resources.
  • Build effective teams and develop (direct reports) for future opportunities.
  • Ensure that all crews have the tools and training to operate safely at all times and that all federal, state and local laws concerning safety, environmental, EEO, and other applicable areas are adhered to.
  • Monitor/control production through direction of the site managers to ensure safe production, on schedule, and within budget; investigate potentially serious situations and implement corrective measures.
  • Provide advice and support to team during the job bidding process through job completion.
  • Work with General Manager to establish long-range goals, strategies, plans, and policies.
  • Provide leadership and direction in sales and marketing efforts resulting in maximum product sales, meeting or exceeding customer expectations, and driving maximum profitability.
  • Communicate professionally, timely, clearly, and concisely to all levels of employees through various media (verbally, email, text, etc.).
  • Regularly attend and be an active, positive, contributor to various business and management meetings.
  • Seek "out of the box" business ideas to help sustain and grow the business.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned to meet business needs.
  • Regular and timely attendance.

  • Office & Field Setting
  • Office Hours Monday - Friday 8-10 hours/day. Start, and end times may fluctuate based on customer need, workload, and business need.
  • This is an in-person position (not remote), based in Salem, OR
  • Local travel as needed to support operations in Hood River, OR.
  • Infrequent overnight travel as needed (up to 10%) to other areas approximately once a quarter.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; and extreme cold and/or heat.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
