The IU Center for Rural Engagement improves the lives of Hoosiers through collaborative initiatives that discover and deploy scalable and flexible solutions to common challenges facing rural communities. Job Summary

We are seeking an IU student for a project-based internship in partnership with the Indiana Landmarks Black Heritage Preservation Program. BHPP identifies, saves, and celebrates historic African American sites in and around the State of Indiana. This internship will support those efforts by collecting the oral histories of some of the most elderly Black residents in the south central Indiana region.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

• Identifies and interviews African American elders in south-central Indiana to capture the history of their generation.
• Uploads each interview into transcription software.
• Edits each transcript for accuracy.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

$15.00 per hour

Work Hours

Time commitment is 10-20 hours per week depending on project volume
