POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is concerned with design and development of new products and/or substantially redesigning existing products in accordance with industry regulations, cost and quality guidelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Involved in every stage of new product development, from ideation to product launch
  • Redesigns and improves existing products
  • Prototypes and tests design concepts
  • Conducts continuous search of new materials, processes, and procedures to enhance DSC capabilities and efficiencies
  • Establishes budgets and schedules for the development of product improvements
  • Insures that development is progressing according to schedule and within budgetary guidelines
  • Communicates and works well in a cross-departmental atmosphere to accomplish seamless transitions between product development stages
  • Works closely with management staff to establish targets for improvements
  • Completes special studies on as required basis including failure analysis of existing products
  • Interfaces with both sales and customers to fulfill needs and solve issues as needed
  • Promotes Dayton policies by setting an example for all fellow workers to follow
  • Overnight travel will be required as needed.
  • May perform other duties as requested or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Product design, concept through manufacture
  • 3-5 years in increasingly complex problem solving/troubleshooting hands-on position.
  • Experience working on team or group development projects.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • Excellent technical, conceptual and engineering skills
  • Commitment to continuous education by attending appropriate seminars and classes.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to work within multi-disciplinary team and to facilitate team efforts to accomplish goals successfully
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and familiarity with CAD/CAM system used in process/product engineering (Solidworks preferred).
  • Excellent English communication skills.
  • Secondary languages an asset. (Spanish, German, Russian, Chinese, etc.).
  • Ability to understand concrete accessories and forming customers and their requirements.
  • Works as an effective team member.
  • Optimizes both internal and external customer needs and requirements when making decisions and taking actions.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects at once.
  • Ability to work and lead own projects independently.
  • Exhibits flexibility and willingness to adjust as needed to accomplish company goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrates self-confidence in own ideas, judgments, and capabilities.
  • Develops others in the team without regard for differences in background or perspectives.
  • Initiative: Takes independent action and goes beyond what situation requires.
  • Judgment: Acts with a view to what is appropriate, reasonable, timely, and realistic.
  • Learning Orientation: Remains open to new ideas and perspectives that differ from his/her own idea.
  • Attention to Detail: Makes sure that work is done correctly, completely, and to the highest standards.
  • Background in Value Analysis, and continuous product improvement.
