OMNI Engineering, a CRH company, started its business in 1985 in Omaha, Nebraska. OMNI is involved in heavy highway construction as well as private and commercial site construction. Its primary business involves the manufacture and placement of asphalt for roads, city streets and parking lots. Currently, OMNI Engineering employs around 200 employees and remains a competitive force in the Omaha market.

Position Overview

The Project Manager will be responsible for oversight of construction projects including coordination with subcontractors and crews, scheduling for the project, equipment, labor, and overhead costs and assisting with estimating/project specifications when needed.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Read and interpret construction plans/blueprints. Verify elevations at job site and indicate reference points.
  • Travel to potential sites to evaluate existing conditions and meet with site owners and/or owner's representatives.
  • Visit active construction projects to ensure policies and procedures are being followed.
  • Understanding and taking initiative over costs and financials.
  • Assist estimators with preparation of estimates, proposals, sealed bids, and subcontracts.
  • Oversee internal and external schedules to meet project deadlines.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with owner, contractors, and engineers.
  • Track and adjust quantities through all phases of each project.
  • Generate various reports required by immediate supervisor.
  • Effectively manage the needs of the project and the customer in the best possible manner.
  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures. Ensures operations are in full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations including OSHA, MSHA, etc.
  • Manage the patching crew which includes scheduling, hiring, training, coaching, engaging, evaluating and when necessary, disciplining employees.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Education/Experience
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management or other related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience and/or training in a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of road construction experience preferred.

Work Requirements
  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is required and must be willing to work evenings and weekends when necessary. Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Compliance with all OSHA and/or MSHA regulations.
  • Willingness to work independently within in a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software (Word, Excel Outlook). Willingness and ability to learn additional computer software and computer programs.
  • Capable of utilizing the internet effectively for research and evaluation.
  • Must be able to reach and interpret construction plans and blueprints.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing as well as understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to read, write and do basic mathematical calculations to keep time and material records.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced and complex environment, as well as being able to work independently with attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in construction.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to work with suppliers.
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations and construction sites.
  • Willingness and ability to work in and adapt to changes in circumstances, tasks, customer needs and other conditions that may affect their daily responsibilities.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Able to communicate with others by email, telephone an in person.
  • Able to utilize a computer for processing, email communication, and preparation of documents and presentations.
  • Able to regulary lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to frequently talk, hear, walk, and sit as well as occasionally required to stand, reach use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel and crouch.
  • Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to occasionally climb stairs, ladders, inclined walkways and access elevated platforms.

Work Environment

While performing field duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions which may include extreme cold and/or heat, and exposure to wet and humid conditions. They are frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, and/or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
