The Role:

Develops documents and performs activities related to sampling, testing, calibration/verification, and in-process auditing. Maintains records for calibrated instruments and defective equipment reports. Requests quotes for equipment repair, writes purchase requests for equipment and services. Develops and maintains Quality Metrics and Quality Records. Develops and performs preventive maintenance tasks for lab equipment. Acts as liaison between QA and Production Departments. Receives and assists in processing Material Return Authorizations (MRAs).

Responsibilities

• Independently observes, measures, tests, analyzes, or otherwise inspects and verifies raw materials and finished products to ensure specifications are met.

• Assists Quality Manager in identifying non-conformance causes and assists in non-conformance dispositioning by utilizing skills and technical research. Completes Non-Conforming Material Reports (NCM).

• Uses test equipment such as Multimeter, Thermogravimetric Analyzer, Differential Scanning Calorimeter, Moisture Analyzer, Melt Flow Indexer, Tensile Tester, Precision Scales, HiPot Tester, and MegaOhm Meter to verify functional conformance of products and/or raw material components.

• Uses generalized or specific QC/Engineering test instructions, procedures, schematics, and layout drawings to check, test, and inspect components and finished products.

• Uses micrometers, calipers, pin/plug gauges, for inspection of dimensional parameters and verification of instruments.

• Completes required portions of the various inspection forms and reports while performing inspection and test procedures.

• Keeps Quality Manager informed of basic quality issues.

• Makes suggestions for improvements or corrections.

• Other duties as assigned through identified and established process improvements.

  • May be required to cross train and demonstrate competency on all essential job functions of the department working at different workstations as needs require.
  • Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships; training and teaching others.
  • Maintenance of a clean and orderly work area free of excess materials.
  • Support of and involvement in company, department, and/or safety policies, procedures, programs and activities.

Required Experience
• Some formal trade or technical school is desirable, but applicable experience will be considered.

• Analytical lab experience preferred, including working knowledge of lab equipment.

• Demonstrated capabilities for numerical calculations, reading and understanding technical instructions and interpreting technical drawings, tables, and graphs.

• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

• Ability to use various test equipment.

• Working knowledge of mechanical measuring gauges.

• Must have knowledge and experience in a variety of computer software applications including: Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, proportions and decimals.

• Ability and understanding of various measuring devices in meeting drawing dimensions and specifications.

• Ability to measure and calculate in all units of measure, utilizing conversions when necessary.

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, work orders, work instructions, diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

• Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary.

• Work requires continual attention to detail in following through, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

• Ability to deal with problems involving several variables.
