The Opportunity: The Libraries at Washington State University invites applications for a permanent, full-time, twelve-month, tenure-track Librarian position in Pullman, WA, with a specialty in Reference Coordination. We seek applicants to teach classes on accessing and managing information for lower-level undergraduate courses and coordinate reference services in the Holland and Terrell Libraries, as well as campus-wide virtual reference services.

It is anticipated that the successful candidate will begin the appointment on January 1, 2025.

Job duties:

Instruction and Reference (70%)

  • This position is responsible for designing, delivering and/or assessing liaison and outreach services to academic departments and student support services.

  • Responsible for teaching and/or training students, staff, faculty and/or community members. This includes providing specialized class- and reference-based instruction.

  • Provide reference service in person and through virtual reference platform(s).

  • Coordinate reference services, including:

    • Scheduling for all reference services.

    • Hiring and training student assistants or part time employees.

    • Keeping up to date with trends and developments.

    • Assessing services.

    • Communicating with library staff, faculty, student workers, and constituents.

  • Serve on the Research Services Steering Committee with the Undergraduate Services team instruction coordinator and the coordinator(s) for the Subject Liaison team.

  • Responsible for teaching and/or training students, staff, faculty and/or community members.

Professional and Scholarly Activities (20%)

  • Keeps up on trends in librarianship, information literacy, electronic resources and higher education.

  • Participates in professional organizations and attends workshops, conferences, institutes, etc. at the local, state and national level.

  • Participates in scholarly research and publication.

Library/University/Public Service (10%)

  • Serves on Library Working Groups, task forces and search committees.

  • Serves on WSU committees and task forces. Performs related special assignments as necessary.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an ALA-Accredited Library and Information Studies program by date of hire

  • Demonstrated record of coordinating or managing library services

  • Demonstrated record of experience with instruction and/or reference services

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively both as a team member and independently, and to promote teamwork among colleagues.

  • Demonstrated commitment to campus diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in an academic library setting

  • Experience with emerging technologies

  • Coursework or experience with library instruction

  • Ability to develop outreach programs to academic communities

  • Demonstrated ability to assess and improve services

  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience with diverse populations

  • Documented achievement in research and creative work and professional service

12 month annual year salary: $68,500 - $72,000 | In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
