General Summary of Position:

The Regional Admissions Counselor is responsible for freshmen and transfer student recruitment and represents UMass Lowell at targeted college fairs, high schools, and community college events in territories to be determined by location, institutional priorities, and commensurate experience of applicant. The Regional Admissions counselor will counsel prospective students and their parents regarding admission criteria, application and financial aid processes, academic programs, merit-based scholarships, campus facilities and resources, student organizations and activities. The Regional Admissions counselor is also expected to visit the UMass Lowell campus at various times throughout the year for trainings and Fall recruitment & Spring yield events. The Regional Admissions Counselor will report to the Director of International, Multicultural and Regional Admissions. This position is part-time/temporary (29 hours per week for approximately 10 months) and non-benefited.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Contributes to the generation of leads, applications, and enrollment of new students from designated areas.
  • The Regional Admissions Counselor represents UMass Lowell UGRD Admissions at college fairs and high school & community college recruitment visits and alumni functions both in -person and virtually.
  • Advises and creates positive relationships with prospective students, parents, guidance counselors and transfer advisors.
  • The Regional Admissions Counselor also initiates and responds to written, phone, email, and in-person inquiries; meets with prospective students and parents; makes formal presentations.
  • Evaluates applications from assigned territories and other areas and participates in admissions committee meetings as requested.
  • Assists with planning and implementation of recruitment and yield events, such as assisting prospective students and School Counselors from designated territories visit campus.
  • Compiles data and reports using Enrollment Planning Service, ACT, Admissions CRM (experience with SLATE CRM Preferred) school visit data, and various sources for planning, executing and assessing the effectiveness of a territory management plan.
  • The Regional Admissions Counselor will provide updates and analytic reports on recruitment & yield efforts on a regular basis.
  • Assists with related projects and reports.
  • Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts, attending professional development courses, and attending trainings or courses required by the Director of International, Multicultural and Regional Admissions
  • Supports the alumni office in their efforts to coordinate volunteers interested in helping with recruitment, attends alumni events and activities in the designated area to expand the network of alumni interested in recruitment
  • Build effective partnerships with external constituents, such as School Counselors, prospective students, and Transfer Advisors.
  • Maintaining a level of professionalism that is welcoming to people of all backgrounds, nationalities, etc.

Other Job Duties:

  • The Regional Admissions Counselor will be an active member of regional professional associations, such as NYSACAC, NJACAC, or MARCA for the purpose of enhancing the reputation and visibility of UMass Lowell and professional development.
  • Assists with regional receptions for prospective and admitted students.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree

Experience:

  • Job requires 1-2 years of experience in higher education or related field
  • Understanding of academic programs and opportunities at UMass Lowell
  • Must reside in either NY, NJ, or PA
