Description of Work:

The Nebraska Academy for Methodology, Analytics & Psychometrics (MAP Academy - https://mapacademy.unl.edu), housed in the Nebraska Center for Research on Children, Youth, Families and Schools (CYFS) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), is seeking applicants for a non-tenure leading twelve-month annually renewable Research Assistant Professor position. The successful applicant will work in a team environment whose mission is to promote the advancement of methodologies, applied analytics, and data infrastructure to support and enhance rigorous research within the social, behavioral, health, and educational (SBHE) sciences. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a high-impact, nationally recognized research program in a self-identified area of applied SBHE research methodology, analytics, or other closely related area. They will be expected to effectively obtain and leverage external and internal support (grants, fee revenue, etc.) for research; work with interdisciplinary teams; mentor students; publish in high-quality, high-impact peer-reviewed journals; and participate in scientific meetings and other appropriate professional activities. The successful candidate will have strong methodological and analytic skills and be interested in developing a collaborative program of applied research in SBHE sciences. For example, this may include research programs supporting academic intervention and learning; early education and development; social, emotional, and behavioral well-being; biological bases of learning and behavior; rural schools and communities; and research, measurement, and evaluation methods. We are seeking candidates with a completed doctorate at the time the appointment begins, to begin immediately and no later than August 2025.

Responsibilities

  1. Developing and executing leading-edge grant-funded research concerned with the dynamic and multilevel interactions among families, schools, policy-makers, and communities.
  2. Conducting grant-funded methodologically sound research to advance the methodological knowledge base in ecological methods for the social, educational, health, or behavioral sciences.
  3. Providing statistical and methodology expertise for interdisciplinary grant writing teams.
  4. Collaborating with researchers on research design, data management, and data analytic procedures.
  5. Providing instructional/educational experiences to faculty research affiliates and graduate students.
  6. Co-developing training and education grants to attract and prepare interdisciplinary researchers and graduate students.
  7. Mentoring staff, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate and undergraduate students affiliated with the MAP Academy.
The individual's primary responsibility and apportionment will be 80% research and 20% service.

  • Ph.D. in a relevant discipline at the time the appointment begins. Relevant disciplines include social science or educational research methods, applied statistics, behavioral sciences, psychology, family science, developmental science, sociology, educational psychology, or closely related field.
  • Demonstrated evidence of expertise in applied statistics/analytics (e.g., structural equation modeling, generalized linear mixed modeling, longitudinal data analysis, complex survey data, applied or technical psychometrics, big data/machine learning, or a related approach).
  • Demonstrated evidence of expertise in SBHE-related research methods (e.g., experimental or quasi-experimental designs, intervention efficacy/effectiveness, educational measurement, mixed methods, or related methods).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent collaborative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong self-motivation and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage and balance the demands of multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in grant writing and evidence of the potential to secure external grants independently or collaboratively are highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated training and/or experience in the design or analysis of applied research in the social, educational, or behavioral sciences is highly desired.
  • Publication record in top-tier peer-reviewed journals in a relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrated training and/or experience in building and managing data infrastructure for open science.
  • Demonstrated training and/or experience in the use of data to inform education, behavioral health, or public policy.
