Summary
The R&D Engineering Year-Round Intern will support new product development projects for Bard's Urology division. The intern will be responsible for conducting design research, prototyping, testing, and documentation of medical devices according to internal quality systems (IQS) requirements. The position will involve working closely with engineers on cross functional teams including but not limited to marketing, operations, manufacturing, regulatory affairs, and human factors engineering.
Responsibilities:
- Support the execution of design control processes in compliance with IQS standards.
- Participate in brainstorm sessions and contribute ideas for new products/design improvements.
- Create designs for new or existing products using SolidWorks CAD software.
- Generate technical documentation such as user instructions, specifications, test plans, and presentations.
- Perform technical analysis using FEA simulation tools such as ANSYS and COMSOL.
- Conduct experiments and gather data on material properties and device performance.
- Work with suppliers to develop custom components.
- Prototype and test devices using in-house equipment or external testing facilities.
- Document results and create reports.
- Contribute to project timelines and communicate progress to team members and management.
Qualifications:
- Pursuing Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.
- Strong knowledge of solid modeling techniques and experience with SolidWorks preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with Ansys, COMSOL, and Minitab desirable.
- Previous experience with product development process and design control activities ideal.
- Knowledgeable in mechanical engineering fundamentals including mechanics of materials, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and biomechanics.
- Familiarity with medical device industry and regulatory requirements beneficial.
- Hands-on experience building prototypes using 3D printing, machining, and other fabrication techniques desired.
