Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

Launched in 2013, the Department of Applied Physical Sciences (APS) is the first new science department in the College of Arts and Sciences in nearly 40 years. Applied Physical Sciences has united numerous scientific entities on campus to further its mission of finding interdisciplinary solutions to real-world problems. Its newest endeavor, BeAM (Be A Maker), is a university-wide initiative that incorporates Making into research, education, and entrepreneurship. BeAM is comprised of several spaces, including a makerspace in Hanes Art Center, Carmichael Residence Hall, and a 3,400 square foot Makerspace in Murray Hall, all of which serve the entire UNC community.

Position Summary:

Provide support for projects in an optical engineering lab specializing in the development of tools and instruments for neuroscience applications. The individual will play a pivotal role in ensuring lab efficiency, optimizing the use of resources, and offering project and administrative support to lab members.
Responsibilities:
Organization - Help maintain the cleanliness, orderliness, and organization of the lab, ensuring equipment and instruments are properly stored and easily accessible.
Research Assistance - Offer hands-on support in the development, testing, and validation of new tools for neuroscience applications. Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in neuroscience tools to suggest and implement enhancements in lab processes and equipment.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Prior experience in a laboratory setting
Knowledge of tools and instruments used in neuroscience research.
Organizational and multitasking skills.
Interpersonal and communication skills.

Competency in 3D design, laser cutting, pcb design, soldering
