Compensation for this position is $16.04/hr plus an additional estimated $25.00/hr in production pay, paid weekly.

Teammates in this position average over $85,000 annually.

Basic Job Functions:

The Scrap Inspector is primarily responsible for working knowledge of safe practices and procedures in fast paced environment with continually moving heavy equipment and overhead cranes. Including but not limited to proper PPE, working knowledge of clear and concise radio communications, working knowledge of computer systems (access required documentation such as scrap specifications, policies, procedures), working knowledge of scrap specifications, working knowledge of environmental policies and specifications, working knowledge of inventory control practices, working knowledge of Scrap Connect computer systems - a customized computer program for scrap receiving and inspection. Must be able to receive material, record images and generate email via tablet. Training for scrap identification by grade, for nonconforming materials and for potentially dangerous items, training for nonconforming materials and potentially dangerous item disposition.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to successfully pass crane operator and mobile equipment licensing requirements
  • Must have positive recommendation from Supervisor and/or Manager
  • Willing to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime and rotating shifts

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a production environment
  • Participation in a Safety Team
  • Knowledge of Scrap/Melting Process
  • Scrap Crane/Cab Crane Experience
  • Experience using Excel
