About this opportunity:
Cenovus is looking for a Sr. Customs Advisor at our Dublin, Ohio location. This position is part of the Customs team within Treasury & Risk - Finance division - responsible for the governance and compliance activities/processes that support the import/export of various oil and gas equipment and other tangible goods (parts and materials). Said equipment and goods pertain to applicable business unit operations and projects within the organization. Related activities may also involve import/export compliance activities for commodities/hydrocarbons and other FTZ oversight. This role will collaborate with the applicable business units and other supporting functions to facilitate cross border movement effectively and compliantly. Success in this role will be dependent upon close attention to detail, strong analytical and communication skills while managing competing priorities and maintaining good business acumen related to "One Cenovus".
What you'll do:
- Liaison between Supply Chain Management, Downstream Manufacturing, Trading, Supply & Logistics and [Commodity] Marketing organizations and respective customs brokers.
- Provide guidance on pre- and post-trade activities and expectations.
- Liaise with logistics teams and business units to provide guidance regarding applicable commercial documents/content required for customs clearance. Be engaged in preplanning activities and develop risk mitigation strategies and action plans.
- Perform post-entry analysis for variety of imports and exports
- Maintain knowledge of applicable import/export regulations.
- Contribute to the enhancement of the corporate customs and trade compliance framework, with experience concerning U.S. exports and import compliance.
- Adhere to and drive continuous improvement of corporate customs and trade compliance procedures and processes (process clarity and refinement), alongside process efficiencies.
- Design and implement internal control processes for import/export activities where required.
- Educate and collaborate with partners on import/export matters and information relevant to their respective roles, while continuously reinforce expectations.
- Contribute to Customs team initiatives including data streamlining and analytics.
Who you are: - 8+ years' experience as a US Certified Customs Specialist (U.S. CCS) focusing on compliance
Preferred:
- 5 years of demonstrated ability in Oil & Gas industry and/or at a customs brokerage firm supporting the oil & gas industry considered an asset; strong working knowledge of the oil and gas projects and equipment
- Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams based in Canada, ensuring seamless communication and project alignment across geographic boundaries.
- Strong knowledge of import/export procedures and U.S. Customs laws, rules & regulations
- Strong understanding of Incoterms 2010 and 2020 and their use in contracts
- Data analytics and visualization experience required; data science experience.
- Teammate with strong communication and customer service skills
- Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills, with high attention to detail
- Strong ability to analyze complex information & details, and present findings in a clear concise format
- Show up with a curious and questioning demeanor to challenge existing ways of working and demonstrate ability to inspire change to influence corporate compliance and adherence
- Ability to work effectively on a dynamic team while leading competing priorities.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point)
