General Summary of Position:

The University of Massachusetts Lowell is proud to receive designation from the federal government as an Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI). Funding aims to mitigate AAPI students' barriers to educational achievement by enhancing institutional programs and services. The purpose of this position is to perform specialized duties related to the activities and operations of the federally funded Title III AANAPISI grant and to provide complex analytical support.

Under the direction of the Director of the Office of Data, Analytics, and Institutional Research (DAIR) the Senior Data Analyst will work closely with AANAPISI PIs to conduct specialized data collection and analyses related to program participation and evaluation, including customized reports that disaggregate program results. Data will inform ongoing feedback loop for program improvement for UML with the goal to positively affect processes system wide.

The position also works closely with the Enterprise Data Architect supporting requests for information and compile appropriate and accurate responses to these data requests. They will support the ongoing development of the DAIR data warehouse (dataUML) including testing, maintenance of DAIR reporting documents and source data, and documenting methodologies employed, and data sources utilized. They will also be responsible for supporting the development of Tableau dashboards for internal and user-facing self-service data needs.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in the social sciences, computer science, business or related field (Master's preferred)

Experience:

  • Minimum of five years of demonstrated responsibility and professional experience in computer programming, data extraction, reporting and analysis with a minimum of two years of experience with working with descriptive statistics, large data sets, and quantitative research methods.

Skills:

  • Demonstrated advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook.)
  • Demonstrated experience with statistical software (SPSS, SAS preferred), SQL and Tableau
  • Extremely high attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups
  • Ability to learn data values and interrelationships in a comprehensive enterprise information system and apply them in a range of specific contexts and reports
  • Demonstrated experience with statistical, research and evaluation methods and conducting original research adhering to social scientific best practices and ethics
  • Demonstrated record of successful collaboration with administrative partners
  • Strong commitment to customer service

Additional Considerations:

  • Experience in a college/university or other institutional setting performing management reporting and equity data-driven analysis preferred.
  • Applicants who possess the knowledge, skills, and life experiences to address the cultural and educational needs of a culturally diverse student population are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong knowledge of ETL process and design/data modeling
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize a high volume of work under tight deadlines, and handle highly sensitive/confidential information
