The Senior Director of Business Development and Strategy will be responsible for shaping and executing business development and strategic growth initiatives to advance Mass General Brigham's four-part mission of care delivery, research, education, and community health. This senior leader will drive business creation, clinical growth, partnerships, acquisitions, and other growth opportunities that enhance the health system's market position, service offerings, and patient care. This role demands a deep understanding of the healthcare landscape, strategic acumen, and the ability to collaborate with clinical, operational, and administrative leaders.

Additionally, this role provides leadership, professional development, and oversight to a team of investment analysts, strategists, and project managers.
This role reports to the Senior Vice President of Strategy for Mass General Brigham, with a dotted line relationship to the MGB President of Diversified Businesses and works closely with other MGB functions including Research, Finance, Digital, and/or Clinical Operations among others.

Responsibilities

1. Strategic Planning and Execution

  • Perform complex analysis, including financial, operational, and human capital analysis, around new strategies, clinical businesses and opportunities, and partnerships, and form the analysis into practical recommendations and plans
  • Lead strategic growth initiatives across clinical service lines and Institutes, supporting efforts to grow and meet evolving patient needs.
  • Conduct market analysis, competitive intelligence, and scenario planning to guide decision-making on new opportunities.
2. Business Development:
  • Individually and leading a team, identify, evaluate, and execute new business opportunities, including partnerships, mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures.
  • Conduct market entry analysis, financial modeling, and due diligence for new business opportunities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with healthcare organizations, technology firms, and other partners to drive collaboration and shared value.
3. Cross-Functional Leadership:
  • Partner with clinical, operational, and administrative leaders to ensure alignment and integration of strategic initiatives across the organization.
  • Facilitate cross-functional teams to implement strategic initiatives, ensuring project timelines, milestones, and performance goals are achieved.
  • Communicate strategic priorities and project outcomes to stakeholders across various levels of the organization.
4. Market and Industry Insights:
  • Monitor healthcare industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitor activities to anticipate impacts on Mass General Brigham.
  • Provide insights on emerging technologies, patient care innovations, and best practices that can be leveraged for competitive advantage.
5. Financial and Operational Oversight:
  • Develop and manage budgets related to business development projects, ensuring financial stewardship and accountability.
  • Track key performance metrics and outcomes to assess the impact and return on investment of strategic initiatives.
  • Oversee a team of analysts and consultants, providing coaching and upskilling to enhance team capabilities using a variety of leading practices.
  • When applicable, oversee external consultants to pursue new strategies, new clinical business opportunities and partnerships
6. Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:
  • Represent the organization and function in internal and external forums, cultivating relationships that enhance Mass General Brigham's visibility and reputation.
  • Provide business development, business formation, and due diligence subject matter expertise at the MGB enterprise level, serving as a key leader within the MGB enterprise strategy function.
  • Work closely with the SVP of Diversified Business and team as a key partner to launch new businesses that will eventually be operated within the diversified business portfolio.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
Qualifications
  • Master's in business administration, or related degree, with 10+ years' experience preferably in consulting, corporate strategy, investment banking, or corporate development
  • Healthcare industry experience strongly preferred
Skills
  • Strong understanding of operational and human capital considerations in business plan development and execution
  • Exceptional financial skills, with expertise in financial modeling, valuation, and broad quantitative analyses and familiarity with both accounting and operating metrics
  • Proven ability to produce superior results in a relationship-based and financial performance-oreiented envrionemtn and
  • Exceptional communications skills including strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills to form effective relationships throughout the organization and communicate complex analytical models in a synthesized and concise manner
  • Experience using data to identify trends, gain insights and drive change
  • Experience managing professional staff
  • Experience effectively negotiating and closing partnership deals
  • Strong project management, facilitation and organizational skills
  • Adept at partnering with and influencing senior leaders.
  • Dedication to quality service and attention to detail
  • Self-starter who can manage through ambiguity, handle projects with multiple workstreams and lead sophisticated cross-enterprise projects with multiple partners at both senior and junior levels
  • Flexible and adaptable within a fast-paced, sophisticated, multi-site environment with changing requirements
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Lead a team (8 individuals) of investment analysts, strategists, and project managers
Fiscal Responsibilities
  • Responsible for a budget to be used for internal development and external expertise
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by effectively using Mass General Brigham resources
