Our Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. We touch nearly every element of the services value stream from procurement to design and manufacturing to distribution. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts DistributionofCat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurementand thedesign andmanufactureof Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters).

As the Senior Supplier Development Engineer , you will provide technical expertise and leadership to Caterpillar's supply base in the execution of a robust quality plan within the supplier network. In addition, the Senior Supplier Development Engineer is responsible for implementing a well-documented continuous quality improvement process and strict process controls. This will be used for the evaluation and development of new and existing suppliers worldwide, to maximizing Quality, Cost, Logistics, Delivery, and Management (QCLDM) within the supply network. The Senior Supplier Development Engineer ensures that a supplier is able to meet corporate and business unit requirements for SQEP certification levels and customer requirements for quality, cost, and delivery of purchased material.

What You Will Do:
  • Lead Category Capacity improvement, including onboarding additional capacity in the supply base (new suppliers and capacity at existing suppliers).
  • Assess and improve supplier performance via on-site Quality, Cost, Logistics, Development, Management (QCLDM) audits, drive implementation of Lean, BIQ, & APQP, continuous reviewing of supplier capacity, and production readiness through rigorous review of supplier PPAP submission.
  • Manage key supplier performance to result in the development and maintenance of selected suppliers.
  • Lead Continuous Improvement projects related to Quality.
  • Lead SQEP Certifications and SPM Reviews.
  • Manage/facilitate meetings with Caterpillar and supplier teams.
  • Other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time-to-time.

  • Manufacturing Standards, Procedures and Policies: Knowledge of organizational standards, procedures and policies in manufacturing activities; ability to plan, guide, and monitor manufacturing processes for compliance.
    • Ensures communication vehicles are effectively informing affected areas and personnel.
    • Consults on development and implementation of cross-functional standards.
    • Participates in the development of organizational policies and practices.
    • Develops and uses control and monitoring mechanisms for adherence.
    • Collaborates with other functions on establishing and documenting joint standards.
    • Participates in defining architectural principles and standards for organization.
  • Supplier Evaluations and Certificates: Knowledge of supplier evaluations and certification; ability to identify the methods, tools and documentation for evaluating, selecting and certifying vendors, suppliers and partners.
    • Leads discussions on the case studies of effective and ineffective processes and what can be learned from each.
    • Designs systematic protocols and procedures for supplier evaluations & certification in the organization.
    • Establishes organizational standards, metrics and best practices for supplier evaluations & certification in the organization.
    • Advocates the development of new technologies and tools for supplier evaluations and certification.
    • Creates a system to document the performance and quality of existing suppliers and products.
    • Predicts the future trends of supplier evaluations & certification.
What Will Set You Apart (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field.
  • Previous experience in Purchasing, Procurement, Supply Chain, or Business Management.
  • Lean and/or 6 Sigma Black Belt Certification/Experience.
