Position Summary

The College of Social Science is seeking applicants for an annual year fixed-term Academic Specialist - Advisor. This position is initially for one year, renewable annually based on performance and funding.
This position will serve as the Academic Support Coordinator which plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation and effectiveness of academic support services within the College of Social Science. Responsibilities encompass various aspects including program development, administration, coordination, and facilitation of academic support initiatives.
Responsibilities include:
- Oversee the day-to-day operational tasks related to academic support services, including scheduling, resource allocation, room reservations, and student employee communication.
- Prepare semester weekly schedules for all academic support services.
- Recruit, train, and supervise student tutors, mentors, and peer educators to provide effective academic assistance to their peers. Provide ongoing support and professional development opportunities for student leaders.
- Coordinate professional development sessions, workshops, study groups, and other support activities to promote student success and retention.
- Collaborate with academic departments, faculty members, student organizations, and other campus units to promote awareness of available academic support services and foster a supportive learning environment.
- Prepare outreach and promotional materials for distribution to students and institutional units regarding services and programs; Assists with the development and improvement of training programs and materials for student employee orientation regarding instruction techniques and program policies and guidelines.
- Develop and facilitate academic workshops, seminars, and training sessions aimed at improving students' study skills, time management, exam preparation, and other academic competencies.
- Assist the director to evaluate programming and relevant training.
- Propose and assist in developing program improvement and implements program modifications based upon evaluation results.
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to design, develop, and enhance academic support programs tailored to meet the diverse needs of students across different disciplines and levels.

Required Degree
Masters -Education, counseling, social work or other social science related field
Minimum Requirements
- Masters Degree in education, counseling, social work or other social science related field.
- 2 to 3 years experience in an educational setting
- Prior experience coordinating academic programs and implementing student support activities for diverse communities
- Demonstrated public speaking experience
- Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience in higher education student affairs or student success
- Knowledge of supplemental instruction and/or academic support services
- Knowledge of academic policies and procedures
- Knowledge of campus college departments
- Knowledge of Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, and Zoom
