Job Description:

We are seeking a Sr. Materials Characterization Engineer ("MCE") for the development and characterization of our proprietary aluminum nitride (AlN) semiconductor substrates. The ideal candidate will have strong materials engineering fundamentals together with basic understanding of semiconductor processes (characterization, substrate processing, crystal growth and/or semiconductor manufacturing), The MCE plays a key role in the development of new or improved processes, methods and equipment to meet future quality, performance and cost targets. A successful candidate should have the ability to collaborate with multiple engineering disciplines at different geographic locations to successfully integrate new processes to the existing manufacturing process.

The job responsibility includes, but is not limited to
  • Develop, maintain, and improve systems to obtain and retrieve substrate characterization data.
  • Perform measurements, evaluation, and analysis of AlN materials properties using internal analytical systems.
  • Coordinate and work with external organizations and vendors to evaluate AlN materials and, substrates.,.
  • Manage technical programs through material and substrate characterization, working independently with limited supervision.
  • Provide technical guidance to resolve difficult and sometimes complex problems utilizing test results, analytical data, sound statistical methodology and problem-solving tools.
  • Work closely with operations, facilities and equipment, safety, quality, device fabrication, etc. on the impact and implementation.
  • Provide key process and equipment parameters for the implementation of newly developed processes. Assist in troubleshooting equipment and system issues (support production engineers).
  • Communicate progress and results to cross-sectional audience through presentations, work instructions and documentation.
  • Stay up to date on aluminum nitride and semiconductor research.
  • Participate in writing technical proposals to secure internal and external research funding. Coaching and reviewing the work of lower level professionals.
Qualifications
  • PhD in Materials Science/Engineering, Applied Physics, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline or equivalent experience, e.g., a Master's Degree with 3-5 years of professional experience.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals with some experience in semiconductor processes (characterization, substrate processing, crystal growth and/or semiconductor manufacturing)
  • Demonstrated materials characterization skills, e.g., diffractometry, optical characterization methods, and/or other electrical/thermal properties analytical techniques.
  • Experience with statistical data analysis tools (JMP, Excel, etc.)
  • Self-starter, highly motivated, able to manage multiple projects with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Travel up to 15% domestic or international.

The base compensation range for this role is $100,000-$120,000. Base Compensation is influenced by many factors including, but not limited to: time in the role, previous experience, skills, knowledge, performance, work requirements, internal equity, and business / economic conditions.
