General Position Summary:
Under direct supervision of the Director, Sales Training and Development , and as part of the US MDS business unit sales training team , the Strategic Sales Event Manager will lead strategy, planning and logistics for all internal and external meetings and events, including national sales meetings and tradeshows. This individual will work closely with many departments including sales, sales training, MarCom, marketing, procurement, accounting/finance, legal, regulatory, and Medical Affairs, as well as outside vendors and customers. Ideal candidate will be a proven self-starter with attention to detail and will have the ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead event planning for all US MDS internal training events, including event objectives, concepts, themes, logistics, and final execution, by aligning with the MDS VP/GM, VP of Sales, and Director of Sales Training on business strategy, objectives and initiatives.
  • Research, travel to and vet possible event locations.
  • Develop event agendas, create and track event checklist, and support presentation/planning teams. Clearly communicate with business partners and planning team members on project plans, creative and execution strategy, and project status.
  • Liaise with marketing, MarCom, regulatory and legal teams to set clear objectives, align communication, and ensure materials route and receive proper approvals, in a timely fashion.
  • Plan, manage, and execute all national level events for the US MDS business (approx. 15 tradeshows per year).
  • Manage event negotiation and association/vendor contracting. Monitor and adhere to all event related contract provisions.


Coordinate all logistical elements of the event, including organizing subcontractors, suppliers, caterers, staff, and entertainment, including but not limited to:
  • Work with creative agency on messaging, promotional material, signage, communications to the field, pre and post meeting notices, etc.
  • Approve and execute design, layout, cost estimates and construction of exhibits and displays.
  • Liaise with convention and hotel contacts to provide daily Banquet Event Orders, etc.
  • Coordinate all AV needs, including contracting and management of onsite IT support
  • Vet quotes, select and manage contract and relationship with outside production companies, including coordinating set design, load-in/out, shipping, Run of Show, etc.
  • Coordinate décor/event needs with local Destination Management Companies (DMCs).


  • Prepare and adhere to all event timelines and budgets, tracking both expenses and revenue throughout the lifecycle of all assigned events. Make recommendations for streamlining events, cost-savings, and stronger strategic alignment across functions.
  • Review all event invoices and make on-time, accurate payments to vendors.
  • Evaluate event success, gather feedback for continuous improvement and prepare and provide event report-out to senior leadership, including budget reconciliation.
  • Attend any onsite BD events to provide event support, when necessary.


Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge:
  • Bachelor's degree in hospitality, public relations, business management, or related field, PLUS 5-7+ of experience, required.
  • Event certification (e.g. CSEP, CMP), preferred.
  • Must have experience with CRM databases, Showcare, EventPro Planner, CVENT or similar/related software.
  • Must have experience sourcing and booking venues, negotiating and managing contracts, handling logistics, managing vendors, planners, and onsite crew, budgeting and invoicing, and tracking and reporting event metrics.
  • Must be financially savvy, with the ability to adhere to plan budgets, process invoices and uncover cost-savings.

  • Candidate will be required to travel domestically up to 50% of the time. Available for evenings and weekends events, as needed.
  • Candidate must be able to sit, stand, walk, and drive for extended times. Incumbent must be able to lift up to 50 lbs on occasion.
  • Salt Lake City based, preferred.
