Team Lead, Quality Control - SDG/CDD

An opportunity exists for an experienced Quality Control Laboratory Team Lead in the Clinical Diagnostics Division (CDD) of Thermo Fisher Scientific. This position offers the right candidate a key position in the Clinical Diagnostics Reagents Quality Control Laboratory and will provide opportunities for career development and growth. The position is in Middletown, Virginia.

The Clinical Diagnostics Reagents (CDR) unites deep scientific expertise, a collaborative culture and rich resources to deliver In-vitro Diagnostic products for large diagnostic companies in support 10 Billion clinical tests annually. These tests help with Cancer screening, assist in handling Cardiac disease and reduce the impact of Sepsis in hospitalized patients.

The CDR Quality Control Laboratory ensures our products and solutions are safe, reliable and meet Clinical Standards.

How will you make an impact:

You will coordinate a team of testing Analysts to ensure raw materials, intermediates and finished products meet technical correctness enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer.

What will you do:

  • Acts as a leader in the team, both in terms of laboratory processes and team leadership.
  • Ensures new hires receive accurate orientation and training.
  • Train laboratory personnel on Lab procedures and operations of instrumentation and equipment.
  • Work with manager to identify issues, resources needs and improvement opportunities.
  • Monitor, assess and offer feedback on employee performance through PMD process.
  • Continuously assess work area for unsafe conditions and take immediate action to improve unsafe conditions.
  • Perform laboratory analysis on products and raw materials following established QC laboratory procedures.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and problem solving as required.
  • Preparing schedules, provides manager with daily schedule of activities, assigns day-to-day testing responsibilities, and follows up with the technicians.
  • Facilitate workflow in laboratory. Provide tools for improvement when
  • Troubleshoots test procedures and/or instrumental when problems arise, figures out appropriate course of action.
  • Aid in investigations and/or experiments to assess product problems, under the direction of the manager and/or scientists.
  • Evaluates analytical results and confirms conformance to specification. Identifies deviations and trends, and out of specification events.
  • Maintains instrumentation and equipment in accordance with manufacturers labeling and in-hours audit and calibrations procedures.
  • Prepares data summaries and/or reports for technical input, writes and reviews departmental procedures.
  • Maintains all required records/logs in accordance with procedures and GMP.
  • Ensures required maintenance and operations of laboratory equipment and instrumentation is performed in accordance with quality audits and maintenance procedures to assure accuracy and confidence in performance.
  • Other duties as required.
How will you get here:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology or related degree is recommended.
Experience:
  • 3+ years of clinical laboratory experience
  • Team Leadership / Supervisor experience
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Ability to use critical judgment in a very fast paced product or process problems under immediate time constraints.
  • Validated leadership and supervisor skills and an ability to delegate work assignments to employees.
  • Knowledge of Quality Control principles, statistics and computerization.
  • In-depth knowledge of reagents and instrument systems, as well as the analytical support instrumentation.
  • Broad technical knowledge encompassing diverse product lines and a proven record to troubleshoot elaborate problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to resolve testing rapidly and/or procedural problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and be detail oriented.
  • Strong "interpersonal skills" to be able to engage with various personalities and levels within the organization.
  • Ability to review current processes and implement efficiency improvements.
