Personnel in the Engineering Technician position assist Engineer level and higher in preparation of engineering calculations, graphics for presentations, reports and preparation of drawings and sketches. This position reports to the Department Manager level. Personnel in this position may also provide general administrative assistance to entire staff, as needed. Engineering technicians use sound independent judgment in carrying out responsibilities and takes initiative to handle routine and semi-routine matters.
What You Will Do:
- Responsible for preparing drawings and sketches at the direction of the Project Manager or other office staff.
- Prepare graphics of a technical nature for use in presentations at the direction of the Project Manager or other office staff.
- Prepare spreadsheets and other technical documents to assist engineers in the preparation of engineering calculations.
- Prepare final report figures through the use of desk-top mapping and drawing software and is responsible for final formatting of project report figures and tables.
- Independently perform non-routine clerical tasks with little or no supervision.
- Set up and maintains files in a timely and organized manner and performs records management duties, including filing, file retrieval, database entry, and library tasks.
- Conduct Internet searches or other research projects for engineers or other staff members as needed.
- Perform ongoing departmental projects (e.g., government bid notification, government security assignments, staffing projections).
- Assist with timesheet input and Responds to routine and semi-routine telephone and mail inquiries.
- Responsible for demonstrating a commitment to Total Quality and the process of continuous improvement, identifying and responding actively and with sensitivity to the need of customers and be open and responsive to change.
What You Will Need: Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Advanced skills in the use of office equipment.
- Advanced skills in office automation software (including Microsoft Excel, word processing, presentation, mail/calendar/scheduler programs, and desk-top mapping software). Ability to learn additional programs as required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent arithmetic skills.
- Ability to simultaneously handle multiple assignments and prioritize workload accordingly.
- Ability to interface with levels of personnel.
- Needs to be familiar with the ABS Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental Management System.
