Pay range: $95-105 hourly

Duration: 1 year

Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Test Engineer to support our defense industry partner in a complex program focused on the testing and validation of aircraft subsystems. This position will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, and quality engineering, to ensure the development and execution of operational testing in a safe, efficient, and effective environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Test Program Support:
    • Assist in the stand-up of a complex defense program, ensuring alignment with testing and operational requirements.
    • Identify and execute strategic planning initiatives for creating a safe and efficient shop floor testing environment.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
    • Work closely with Design Engineering, Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Environmental Safety & Health, and Production Operations teams to address and resolve test-related issues.
  • Test Documentation & Procedures:
    • Develop Manufacturing Test Engineering Statements of Work (SOW) and ensure they meet contractual and operational requirements.
    • Author and review test procedures and plans for aircraft systems, including fuel, hydraulic, electrical, and other subsystems.
  • Troubleshooting & Process Improvement:
    • Interface directly with shop floor management and personnel to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve test issues.
    • Lead efforts to implement process improvements that increase testing efficiency and quality.
  • Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Actions:
    • Support the Quality Organization in performing root cause analysis for process-related defects, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Tooling & Equipment Support:
    • Develop and manage shop aid tooling, and provide hands-on support for Ground Support Equipment (GSE) such as hydraulic mules, power carts, and cooling air carts.
  • Performance Analysis:
    • Analyze shop floor performance metrics and make recommendations for improving operational efficiency.
Required Experience & Skills:
  • Testing and Troubleshooting:
    • Hands-on experience testing and troubleshooting aircraft subsystems, such as fuel systems, pumps, valves, actuators, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
  • Test Conductor/Director:
    • Experience acting as a Test Conductor/Director for air vehicle testing, ensuring compliance with test procedures and safety standards.
  • Aircraft System Knowledge:
    • Ability to author detailed test procedures and plans for various air vehicle systems (fuel, hydraulic, electrical).
    • Familiarity with aircraft subsystem assembly and integration processes.
  • Specialized Test Equipment:
    • Proven experience in the identification, setup, and operation of specialized test equipment for aircraft systems.
  • Hands-On Production Floor Support:
    • Direct involvement with production floor operations, including ownership of specific tasks and coordination with touch-labor personnel.
  • Work Instruction & Planning:
    • Experience with work instruction authoring and work planning to support manufacturing operations.
  • Ground Support Equipment (GSE):
    • Hands-on experience with various Ground Support Equipment (e.g., hydraulic mules, power carts, cooling air carts) used in aircraft testing and maintenance.
  • Airworthiness & Quality Standards:
    • Strong understanding of airworthiness, quality, and manufacturing requirements for aircraft validation.
  • Independent Testing Setup Development:
    • Ability to independently develop and execute testing setups with minimal direction or information.
Desired Experience & Skills:
  • Flight Line & Ground Support Knowledge:
    • Familiarity with Flight Line operations and ground support activities, ensuring smooth and efficient testing and maintenance operations.
  • Team Collaboration & Communication:
    • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills to effectively work within cross-functional teams.
    • Ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Prototype & First Article Program Support:
    • Experience supporting development/prototype/first article programs, including integration and testing of prototype air vehicles.
  • Jet Engine Integration & Maintenance:
    • Experience with jet engine integration, service, and maintenance processes.
  • Testing During Aircraft Rework & Maintenance:
    • Ability to assess and recommend regression testing during air vehicle rework, maintenance, or troubleshooting procedures.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    • Experience conducting safety briefs/huddles prior to testing, ensuring team safety, compliance with Foreign Object Debris (FOD) procedures, and efficient testing practices.
  • Aircraft Systems Operation Knowledge:
    • Strong understanding of aircraft system operation at an Integrated Product Team (IPT) level, across all air vehicle systems.
  • Experience with 3DX & Catia V5:
    • Familiarity with 3DX and Catia V5 software tools for design and testing support.
  • STEM Degree:
    • A STEM-related degree (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) is preferred.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or related field) is preferred.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
