Position Summary
The College of Arts and Sciences and UA Early College invite applications for a full-time renewable instructor in English starting January 1, 2025.

Detailed Position Information
The College of Arts and Sciences and UA Early College are hiring a full-time online instructor in English (nine-month position, with the possibility of summer appointments, as needed). The appointment is non-tenure-earning and is a one-year term with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory performance review, staffing needs, and funding.

All sections will consist of UA Early College (high school students taking college courses for credit) and online learning English sections. The instructor will be expected to teach college-approved online course content and facilitate each course in accordance with best practices for online instruction. Online English courses have already been developed using discipline-specific departmental guidelines and follow a standard syllabus and course schedule. Instructors facilitate online discussions, provide feedback on all written work, and grade according to the College's grading standards.

Instructors must be available to participate in their online courses five days per week, as well as over weekends as necessary, particularly in the evenings. The position is considered 80% teaching and 20% service, with the service portion of the load assigned by Early College. The instructor selected for this position does not necessarily have to live in Tuscaloosa, Alabama (home of The University of Alabama campus) in order to qualify for consideration for online teaching, but the selected instructor must be willing and able to travel to campus regularly, as needed. The selected instructor will actively facilitate course content; guide student discussion; provide frequent, timely, and meaningful feedback to online students; maintain regular online office hours; submit course rosters and grades by institutionally required communication methods and deadlines; maintain required records and report for each course assigned; and have weekly collaboration with other online Early College instructors and administrators as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
MA in English or MFA in English; experience in teaching composition. Two years of college-level teaching in English, to include one year of college-level online teaching in English (preferably EN 101, EN 102, and 200-level literature surveys).

Instructions and Required Materials for Application
Applicants should apply online at https://careers.ua.edu and attach a CV or resume, cover letter, unofficial transcripts, and three letters of recommendation.
