Job Title:Undergraduate Academic Advisor 2Department:Arts and Sciences | Design

The Department of Design, within the College of Arts and Sciences, seeks an Undergraduate Academic Advisor to join our team. The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college and the academic heart of the university. The College hosts 81 majors. With 38 departments, 20+ world- class research centers, and more than 2,000 faculty and staff members, students have the unique opportunity to study with the best artists, scholars, and scientists in their field. The College values diversity and offers a supportive, open, and inclusive community.

The Department of Design offers collaborative learning opportunities in four undergraduate majors (Industrial Design, Interior Design, Visual Communication Design, and Experiential Media Design), and six supported minors. Our undergraduate program features a year of Design Foundations followed by competitive major acceptance for small cohorts of 18-20 students, and an emphasis on research and cross-major collaboration.

This position fosters student success by identifying and implementing proactive strategies that assists students in meeting their educational goals and advises students on university policies and procedures, program and degree requirements, and related academic matters and articulates program requirements to a variety of audiences, including students, parents, faculty, partner units, etc. This position monitors student progress and intervenes appropriately; assists in the development, coordination, and execution of student matriculation and retainment events; assists in developing materials for and teaches student survey (intro) courses; identifies new resources and collaborations for resolving student cases; consistently directs students to appropriate resources; participates in administrative committees within the unit and throughout the university; supports orientation and graduation/commencement; conducts special projects regarding academic advising and pursues steps to maintain appropriate levels of professional growth and development; and upholds the mission of the university, college, school, and unit to promote and support the diversity and inclusion of all students.

Some evenings and weekend hours required.

Required Education and Experience: Master's degree.

Desired Education and Experience: Previous experience communicating complex ideas in a manner that adapts to student needs. Previous demonstrated relational skills such as active listening and interviewing/questioning techniques.

Additional Information:

The pay range for this job profile is $45,500.00- $57,750.00. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
